Magic Kingdom has been changing rapidly over the past year, but some of the most noticeable shifts aren’t always announced with a press release or a big reveal. Sometimes the changes happen quietly, almost overnight, and guests only realize what’s happened when something familiar suddenly isn’t there anymore.
That appears to be exactly what’s happening right now.
Two locations inside Magic Kingdom have vanished without much warning, leaving fans puzzled and scrambling to figure out what happened. For many visitors, these spots were simple stops along the way—places to grab a snack, browse a few souvenirs, or take a short break while exploring Frontierland.
Now, they’re seemingly gone.
Disney hasn’t made any major announcement about these locations disappearing, and that’s part of what makes the situation feel so unusual. Guests visiting the park recently or checking the official park maps have noticed that the familiar markers for these areas no longer appear as they once did.
At first glance, it may seem like a minor update. But when you look at everything happening around Magic Kingdom right now, it quickly becomes clear that these quiet removals could be part of a much bigger transformation.

Major Expansions Are Already on the Way
Magic Kingdom is preparing for some of its largest additions in decades, and those projects are already reshaping the future of the park.
Two major expansions are currently planned: Piston Peak National Park and a massive Disney Villains land. Both projects promise to dramatically expand the park beyond its current footprint while introducing entirely new environments for guests to explore.
Piston Peak National Park is expected to draw inspiration from the world of Cars while creating a new wilderness-style setting that fits naturally with the park’s existing themes. Early concept art suggests towering landscapes, rugged scenery, and new attractions built around the fictional national park.
At the same time, Disney has been teasing the arrival of a long-awaited Villains land. For years, fans have hoped to see the company dedicate an entire area of a park to its iconic villains, and Magic Kingdom will finally deliver on that idea.
While Disney has kept many details under wraps, the company has already hinted that this new land will feature major attractions and immersive environments inspired by some of its most infamous characters.
But building two massive lands doesn’t happen without making space first.

Frontierland Is at the Center of the Construction
Much of the work tied to these upcoming expansions is happening in and around Frontierland.
This section of Magic Kingdom has always served as a gateway to the park’s western-inspired environments, with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad acting as a visual anchor at the edge of the land. Now, that area has become the starting point for a wave of construction that will reshape the park’s layout.
Guests have already noticed cranes, construction equipment, and large work zones appearing beyond Big Thunder Mountain. These areas mark where Disney is preparing to expand the park outward to accommodate the new Villains land.
At the same time, additional changes are underway within Frontierland as the park prepares to connect existing areas to the upcoming Piston Peak expansion.
Because of the scale of these projects, construction activity now spans large areas of the land. What once felt like a quiet corner of Magic Kingdom has become one of the park’s busiest construction zones.
And as these projects move forward, some long-standing locations are starting to disappear.

Classic Frontierland Areas Have Already Been Lost
The first major casualties of Magic Kingdom’s transformation were two locations that longtime fans knew well: the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.
Both locations have now been permanently removed to make room for Piston Peak National Park. The river that once circled Tom Sawyer Island has been drained, and the landscape that defined that portion of Frontierland has already begun to change.
Construction crews have moved quickly. Concrete has already been poured in areas where the water once flowed, creating the foundation for what will eventually become the new land.
Meanwhile, activity continues beyond Big Thunder Mountain, where cranes and heavy equipment are preparing the site for Villains Land. That project will expand the park outward, creating an entirely new region for guests to explore in the future.
With so much construction underway, it was clear that additional changes were on the way.
What guests didn’t expect was that two more Frontierland locations would seemingly disappear without any announcement.

Two Frontierland Locations Quietly Vanish From Maps
Recent updates to Disney’s official park maps have revealed something unusual.
Earlier this year, Disney filed permits connected to several Frontierland locations, including Westward Ho, Big Al’s, and the Frontierland churro cart. At the time, the permits hinted that changes could be coming to those areas in the near future.
Now, the park maps themselves appear to reflect that shift.
When guests check the Magic Kingdom map in the My Disney Experience app or on Disney’s website, they can still see the general area where Westward Ho sits. However, the small building icon that once represented the location on the map has disappeared.
A similar change has happened with Big Al’s.
The map previously displayed a building marker for the Frontierland shop, but that symbol has now been removed as well. While the physical areas still exist inside the park for the moment, the visual representations of those locations have quietly vanished from Disney’s official digital maps.
There have already been additional changes tied to these locations, too. Merchandise that was once sold at Big Al’s has reportedly been relocated to Frontier Trading Post, suggesting the shop may no longer be operating in the same way it once did.
An official announcement from Disney has accompanied none of these adjustments.
But the timing of these changes, combined with the construction surrounding Frontierland, has left many fans connecting the dots.

A Likely Shift Toward Piston Peak
At this point, Disney has not provided any explanation for why the two Frontierland locations have disappeared from park maps.
The company has also not confirmed whether Westward Ho or Big Al’s are closing permanently, being relocated, or simply undergoing updates behind the scenes.
However, many observers believe the answer may be tied directly to the upcoming expansion of Piston Peak National Park.
As Disney prepares to introduce a new land inspired by the world of Cars, the surrounding areas of Frontierland may receive updated theming to help the transition feel more seamless.
If that’s the case, locations like Westward Ho and Big Al’s could be reworked, relocated, or replaced to better align with the new environment Piston Peak will create.
In other words, these quiet removals might simply be the first visible signs that Frontierland is beginning its next evolution.

Magic Kingdom’s Transformation Is Far From Over
Magic Kingdom has always evolved, but the pace of change right now is especially dramatic.
The removal of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island marked the beginning of a major transformation that will reshape the park’s western side for years to come. Now, additional locations are quietly disappearing as construction ramps up.
Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land promise entirely new experiences, but their arrival also means saying goodbye to parts of the Magic Kingdom that guests have known for decades.
The disappearance of Westward Ho and Big Al’s from the park map may feel like a small change at first glance.
Yet it’s another reminder that Magic Kingdom is in the middle of one of the biggest transformations in its history—and more surprises may still be waiting just around the corner.
