It’s the dawn of a new era for Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park as Walt Disney World Resort completes several transformation projects in the area. These cosmetic and quality-of-life updates come as Walt Disney Imagineers conduct final tests on the improved Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin attraction, which closed in August 2025 and is scheduled to reopen on April 8, 2026.
Tomorrowland Rock Repainting at Magic Kingdom

The first update came on Wednesday, when WDWNT shared a photo of the large rocks at the main entrance to Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom Park. Disney cast members appear to have finally completed the finishing touches on the glimmering blue rocks, wrapping up a project that began back in 2023.
The Tomorrowland rocks were originally brown. In 2016, Walt Disney World Resort painted the rocks a shimmering blue-gray color. After years of sun damage, Disney began repainting the rocks in 2023 but abruptly halted the project without explanation. For almost three years, there was a stark contrast between the freshly painted rocks and those that still showed years of fading and weathering. Some of the original brown color peeked through at the bottom of the rock at the Cinderella Castle moat waterline.
Walt Disney World Resort resumed painting the Tomorrowland rocks in February 2026, and it appears the project is finally complete. This time, Disney painted the rocks with a naturally faded look, likely to make future weathering from repeated water contact less obvious. The moat is currently drained as crews repaint Cinderella Castle with a new gray-and-blue color scheme inspired by its original look.
Quality of Life Improvement For Guests

In addition to the final touch-ups of the rocks in Tomorrowland, Walt Disney World Resort recently made a quality-of-life improvement for guests in the futuristic Magic Kingdom Park. On March 26, Chip and Company reported that Disney cast members had installed new misting palm trees in the area, posting this photo on X (formerly known as Twitter):

Similar electric palm trees once stood at the entrance to Tomorrowland, but have been absent for some time. Now, at least six of them sit in several areas throughout the land: on the path to Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe, near the Tomorrowland Speedway, and on the walkway between Star Traders, Space Mountain, and TRON Lightcycle / Run.

The silver-and-green structures continuously dispense cool mist, perfect for guests walking on the asphalt on a sunny afternoon in Central Florida.
Walt Disney World Resort has not issued a public statement about the Tomorrowland rock repainting or the new misting palm trees, nor has it indicated whether any more work is planned for either project.
