Overnight, scaffolding appeared around the exterior of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort. The sudden construction comes as Walt Disney Imagineering prepares to update the attraction’s storyline alongside the premiere of The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026).

On March 16, BlogMickey reported that scaffolding and beige scrim had been installed on part of the Millennium Falcon structure in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The outlet shared this photo on Facebook:

Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t issued any public statement about the project, but it appears to be minor maintenance, such as a paint touch-up. Disney is likely refreshing dated elements of the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run show building as it prepares to launch a new mission on the ride on May 22.

The new storyline, which launches the same day as The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters, invites Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort guests to choose their own adventure for the first time since the Batuu attraction premiered in 2019. Hondo Ohnaka promises Disney Park guests a generous bounty for capturing a group of ex-Imperial officers and a band of pirates who are in the middle of a questionable deal on Tatooine. Crews will communicate with Grogu as they travel to one of several destinations, including Bespin, the wreckage of the second Death Star around Endor, or Coruscant, a busy city-planet.

Other Changes in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

This week, Walt Disney World Resort also installed new signage on the former Docking Bay for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The removal of one of the final references to the shuttered immersive hotel came as Disney prepares to shift the timeline in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Later this year, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’s original timeline will shift to include elements of the original trilogy, allowing Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa to appear in the land. Half of Batuu will remain in the existing sequel timeline.

This change takes effect at Disneyland Resort on April 29. Walt Disney World Resort has not announced when its version of the Star Wars land will introduce the timeline shift.
