After what feels like years of speculation, quiet construction walls, and subtle hints, Disney has finally done it. The company has confirmed when guests will be able to step into one of its newest lands. For a while, this project existed in that familiar Disney limbo—fans knew something big was coming, but no one could quite pin down when it would all come together.

Now, that waiting game is over.

Disney has officially revealed when this brand-new land will begin welcoming guests. While the announcement may not have come with fireworks or a massive event, it still marks a major moment for Hollywood Studios. This isn’t just a small refresh or a minor update. It’s part of a much larger transformation that’s quietly reshaping the park.

And once you zoom out, it becomes clear that this new land is just one piece of a much bigger picture.

A Park in the Middle of Transformation

Hollywood Studios has been evolving rapidly, and this latest announcement fits right into that trend. Across Walt Disney World, changes have been stacking up, and they’re happening faster than many fans expected.

At Magic Kingdom, major updates continue to take shape with plans for the long-discussed Villains land, while Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin are also undergoing changes that could reshape one of the park’s most iconic experiences.

Entirely new lands like Monstropolis are on the horizon, promising to bring fresh energy into a park that has already seen massive additions like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land.

With all of this happening at once, it’s easy to overlook smaller projects. But in this case, that would be a mistake.

Because what’s happening in one corner of Hollywood Studios is about to change the identity of an entire section of the park.

A Special Area Says Goodbye

For years, Animation Courtyard served as a quieter part of Hollywood Studios. It was home to experiences like Star Wars Launch Bay, Disney Junior shows, and character meet-and-greets that catered more toward younger guests.

But that version of the land is now gone.

Disney officially closed Animation Courtyard to make way for something entirely new. Instead of simply updating the area, Imagineers are transforming it into a reimagined space with a completely different theme and purpose. This isn’t just a refurbishment—it’s a full-scale identity shift.

The goal is to create a more cohesive environment that celebrates Disney animation in an immersive, interactive way. And instead of keeping the old name, Disney is giving the area a fresh identity that reflects that vision.

That brings us to the announcement fans have been waiting for.

The Opening Date Is Finally Here

Disney has confirmed that the first phase of this new land—now known as “The Walt Disney Studios”—will officially debut on May 26, 2026.

This initial opening will introduce guests to a reimagined outdoor courtyard along with a brand-new stage show designed for younger audiences and families. While it won’t be the complete experience just yet, it marks the beginning of a larger rollout that will continue throughout the summer.

The reimagined land takes over the former Animation Courtyard footprint and brings it closer in spirit to the real Walt Disney Animation Studios in California. From the architecture to the experiences inside, everything is being designed to celebrate the creative process behind Disney’s most beloved animated films.

And the first offering arriving on opening day sets the tone for what’s to come.

A New Show Takes Center Stage

When the land opens on May 26, guests will be able to experience a brand-new live show inspired by Disney Jr.’s updated Mickey Mouse Clubhouse series.

In this interactive stage production, Mickey and Minnie are hosting a party—but things don’t go quite as planned. Their friends haven’t arrived, and it’s up to the audience to help track them down. The show sends guests on a playful adventure to find characters like Goofy, Daisy, and Pluto, blending music, storytelling, and audience participation.

This new experience replaces the previous Disney Junior offerings and gives the space a refreshed energy that aligns with the broader reimagining of the land. It’s clearly designed with families in mind, but it also reinforces the idea that this area will serve as a celebration of Disney characters across generations.

Still, the biggest addition to the land won’t arrive until a bit later.

The Magic of Disney Animation Arrives Later This Summer

Later in summer 2026, the land will expand even further with the debut of The Magic of Disney Animation, a completely reimagined indoor experience that replaces Star Wars Launch Bay.

This new attraction draws inspiration from Once Upon a Studio (2023), bringing the idea of animated characters coming to life into a physical space that guests can explore. The premise is simple but imaginative: the animators have stepped away, and while they’re gone, the characters take over the building.

Inside, guests will find a mix of interactive experiences designed for both kids and adults. One standout feature is “Drawn to Wonderland,” a themed playground inspired by early concept art from Alice in Wonderland (1951). The space includes oversized floral elements, musical features, and whimsical environments that encourage exploration.

Character meet-and-greets will also play a major role, with a dedicated area allowing guests to interact with familiar faces in a setting that feels tied to the animation process itself. On top of that, a new animation class experience will feature Olaf from Frozen (2013), with an animatronic version of the character guiding guests through the basics of drawing.

The entire building pulls visual inspiration from the Walt Disney Animation Studios headquarters in Burbank, complete with a Sorcerer Mickey hat topping the structure. It’s a detail that signals just how seriously Disney is taking the theme of this new land.

And while these additions are significant on their own, they’re arriving during an especially busy time for the park.

A Summer Full of Major Changes

Hollywood Studios isn’t just getting a new land this summer—it’s seeing updates across multiple attractions at the same time.

Starting May 22, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will introduce a brand-new mission, giving returning guests a fresh reason to revisit the attraction. This kind of update keeps the experience feeling dynamic, especially for fans who have already ridden it multiple times.

At the same time, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is preparing for a major transformation. The attraction is set to reopen later in summer 2026 with a Muppets-themed overhaul, replacing its previous Aerosmith storyline. That change alone is expected to draw significant attention, especially from longtime fans curious to see how the new theme plays out.

When you combine these updates with the debut of The Walt Disney Studios land, it becomes clear that Hollywood Studios is heading into one of its busiest and most transformative summers in years.

A New Chapter for Hollywood Studios

Disney’s decision to officially confirm the opening date for this new land signals more than just another addition to the park. It represents a shift in how Hollywood Studios continues to evolve.

The park has already moved far beyond its original concept as a behind-the-scenes look at filmmaking. Now, it’s becoming a collection of fully immersive worlds, each with its own identity and storytelling style.

The Walt Disney Studios land fits perfectly into that direction. It celebrates the heart of Disney’s legacy—animation—while offering new experiences that feel interactive, modern, and family-focused.

And now that the opening date is finally set, guests can start planning for what could be one of the most exciting summers the park has seen in years.
