On March 17, Walt Disney World Resort filed a permit for construction on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here’s everything we know about the project and how it could impact your family’s next visit to the Central Florida Disney parks.

Walt Disney World Resort’s Facility Asset Management team filed the construction permit with the office of the Orange County Comptroller on Tuesday morning. It lists MLC Theming as the third-party contractor for “General Construction” at an address on Theater of the Stars Drive–the exact address of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction.

According to MLC Theming’s website, they specialize in “scenic painting and aging of structures, fabricating facades, carving rock work, and more.” Walt Disney World Resort has previously listed the company as the third-party contractor for work on The Haunted Mansion and near Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom Park.

Walt Disney World Resort has not issued a public statement about the project, which is common for minor refurbishments or maintenance projects.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the last remaining version of the attraction in the United States. Disneyland Resort transformed the Disney California Adventure Park version of the drop ride into Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! in 2017. However, modified versions of the original Tower of Terror ride are still in operation at Disneyland Paris Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort.

Potential Ride Closure

At this time, there is no refurbishment closure scheduled for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, indicating that this project is minor or cosmetic and will not impact the ride system itself.

Steps away from The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror on Sunset Boulevard, Walt Disney World Resort is transforming Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith into Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, inspired by the musical Muppets Mayhem series.

Walt Disney Imagineering announced the reimagining after revealing that Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D would close permanently in 2025 to make way for a land and roller coaster inspired by Monsters, Inc. (2001).
