Disney has officially revealed redesigned looks for its princesses – and not everyone is impressed.

Meeting Disney princesses is a staple across Disney parks worldwide. Guests can encounter characters like Cinderella, Belle, and Rapunzel from Disneyland Resort to Tokyo Disney Resort, typically in their signature looks – such as Belle’s golden gown or Cinderella’s blue dress – creating a familiar experience regardless of location.

But one Disney park is taking a different approach with its new character dining experience.

The outfits will appear at The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge when Disney Adventure World replaces Walt Disney Studios Park on March 29, 2026. The venue promises an upscale princess dining experience overlooking Adventure Bay, with appearances from characters including Belle, Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine, Merida, and Mulan.

Instead of traditional ball gowns, however, Disney has opted for alternate costumes drawn from different moments in the characters’ stories.

Some fans appreciate the creative shift, while others say it undermines the “regal” atmosphere the restaurant promises.

👑 First look at the new and exclusive outfits for the Disney Princesses at the Regal View Restaurant in Disney Adventure World:

Fans Split Over Princess Costume Changes

Early photos show princesses in what many fans call “villager” or adventure-style outfits rather than the iconic gowns most commonly associated with the characters.

For some Disney fans on the likes of Reddit, that change feels refreshing.

One commenter wrote that the alternate looks better matches the storytelling of Disney Adventure World, arguing that “their villager outfits are more iconic than their ballgowns (especially Belle’s blue dress).”

Another fan noted that Disney parks already offer plenty of opportunities to see the princesses in their classic gowns elsewhere.

They appear in their dresses in the main park all the time,” the commenter said. “I think it’s good they are in different outfits to make their appearance slightly more special in the new area.”

Practicality also entered the conversation.

Walking between tables in those massive ballgowns must be so annoying,” one fan wrote. “These outfits are so much more convenient.”

Others praised specific costume choices. One fan highlighted Mulan’s appearance in the outfit she wears at the end of her film.

My favourite princess is Mulan and I love that they have her in her end of movie outfit where she saves China,” the fan wrote, adding that it offers a welcome change from the pink or green outfits typically used on merchandise.

Another commenter was simply enthusiastic about the change itself.

The costumes are gorgeous. No one [needs] the same dress at every princess dining,” they wrote.

Critics Say the “Regal” Theme Doesn’t Match the Look

The louder reaction online, however, has been criticism.

Several fans say the alternate outfits clash with the upscale tone Disney is marketing for The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge.

Then they should adjust their menu and prices,” one commenter wrote. “Because there is nothing informal about both.”

The fan added that the costumes would feel more appropriate for a casual environment rather than a premium dining experience.

Love the outfits, better suited for roaming in the parks or Auberge, which translates to an Inn. Not a restaurant named the REGAL view,” they wrote.

Other visitors said they had specifically booked the restaurant expecting the traditional princess look.

I had booked the Regal View but really wanted to see the princesses in their ball gowns rather than day time dress,” one guest wrote.

Another added: “I’ve booked this for October bit disappointed as I like the ball gowns and tiaras.”

Some criticism has focused on the costumes themselves rather than the concept.

Why the official Disney park cast have clothes that looks worse than cosplayers?” one commenter asked. “The wigs looks so fake and the fabrics so cheap.”

The debate highlights the tricky balance Disney faces as it refreshes its parks.

Disney Adventure World represents the most ambitious transformation in Disneyland Paris’ history, complete with World of Frozen, Adventure Way, and the nighttime spectacular planned for Adventure Bay.

The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge is intended to be one of the park’s signature dining experiences. “Dine with Disney Princesses in their favourite summer residence and enjoy a royal Disney experience like nothing before,” says Disney. “Share tales of adventures with the likes of Belle, Aurora and Ariel, in an elegant setting with stunning views of the lake.”

It also holds the distinction of being the first in-park bar at Disneyland Paris, with guests invited to drop by for a drink without needing an advanced reservation. Some restaurants in the parks offer alcohol, although they also come with their own booze restrictions.
