For millions of guests visiting the Disneyland Resort every year, the experience often feels effortless. Attractions run with precision, beloved characters greet fans with enthusiasm, and the immersive worlds of Disney parks appear to operate like clockwork.
But behind the magic is a massive team of Cast Members—the employees responsible for bringing Walt Disney’s vision to life every single day.
From ride operators and hotel staff to Disney Imagineers and corporate team members, thousands of individuals contribute to the daily operation of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Their dedication is often celebrated quietly behind the scenes, even though their work shapes the experiences that keep guests returning year after year.
That’s why moments when Disney publicly honors these employees tend to draw attention—both from fans and from those visiting the parks at the time.
And recently, a surprising development at Disney California Adventure caught many visitors off guard.

Guests Begin Noticing Something Unusual at the Disneyland Resort
Visitors arriving at Disneyland Resort on March 12 reportedly noticed something different in the esplanade between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.
According to a reporter from WDWNT, a check-in tent and event signage appeared near the park’s ticket booths. Additional signage was also spotted near the Disney California Adventure entrance connected to Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.
The signage carried Disney’s bright blue “Celebrate You” branding, a phrase often associated with Cast Member recognition events.
Still, the placement of the signage sparked curiosity among parkgoers. For many, it hinted that something significant was happening behind the scenes.
The biggest surprise, however, came when the posted information revealed a major change to park operations that day.

A Special Celebration Honoring Decades of Disney Service
The signage confirmed that Disney California Adventure would close at 5:00 p.m. on March 12.
The early closure was scheduled so the park could host a special celebration recognizing thousands of Disney employees for their years of service.
The milestone event honored 3,200 Cast Members across the Disneyland Resort, representing a combined 50,000 years of service with The Walt Disney Company.
According to reporting from the Orange County Register, the honorees represented teams from across the resort and company—including Disneyland Resort theme parks, resort hotels, Downtown Disney District, Walt Disney Imagineering, and Disney’s Glendale and Burbank offices.
For longtime Disney fans, the milestone highlights the remarkable tenure many Cast Members spend helping operate the company’s flagship resort.

Inside the Exclusive After-Hours Celebration at Disney California Adventure
Once the park closed to regular guests, Disney California Adventure transformed into a private celebration for the honorees.
A red carpet stretched along Buena Vista Street as Cast Members arrived for the evening festivities.
The celebration included:
-
Character appearances and photo opportunities
-
Complimentary food from marketplaces featured in the 2026 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival
-
An open bar for attendees
-
Attractions operating throughout the evening
One highlight was Radiator Springs Racers, which reportedly continued operating late into the night for the celebration.
Attendees also experienced a special version of World of Color, titled “Celebrate You.” The performance included low-level fireworks—an especially rare sight at Disney California Adventure, as fireworks were only used during the park’s earliest years.
The evening also featured remarks from Disneyland Resort leadership.
Outgoing Disneyland Resort President Thomas Mazloum addressed the honorees with a champagne toast in front of Carthay Circle Restaurant.
“You are all part of Disney history,” Mazloum said during the event. “During my time at Disneyland, what I will always remember is the commitment that you all have to honor Walt Disney’s original vision for the Disneyland resort to be a place of joy and inspiration to all the world.”
Incoming Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino, who previously served as President of Disney Parks International and has worked for Disney for 35 years, also spoke during the celebration.
“I am so excited to be stepping into this role,” Estorino said. “I’m excited to be coming back to Disneyland, where I have worked before. It feels like coming home.”

Fans React to the Rare Disneyland Park Closure
While the event was primarily for Cast Members, news of the early park closure quickly spread among Disney fans online.
Some guests visiting the resort expressed surprise at the early closure, particularly those who had planned to spend a full evening at Disney California Adventure.
However, many fans on social media praised Disney for recognizing employees who have spent decades working for the company.
One particularly notable honoree this year was legendary Imagineer Kim Irvine, who retired last year after 55 years of service with The Walt Disney Company.
For longtime Disney enthusiasts, Irvine’s work helped shape many of the experiences still enjoyed at the parks today.
The milestone celebration also served as a reminder that while guests see the attractions and entertainment, the people behind them remain the heart of Disneyland Resort.
For travelers planning future visits, the early closure was a rare occurrence—but one that highlighted Disney’s effort to celebrate the Cast Members who help keep the magic alive.
