You know it would have been a lot easier just to say that volcano Bay at universal is going cashless, with the other parks to follow sometime this year.

Well I won’t be going anywhere near again if that’s the case. It’s expensive enough as it is for us Brits what with charging for lockers and not letting people take anything on rides when here in the UK there are cages that are free to use.

      1. Steve

Its cheaper to use a credit card abroad than it is to pay inflated exchange rates for currency.
I only take a small amount of cash away for the few places that are cash only.

Busch Gardens and Sea World have been cashless for years already and I think Disney is also so I’m really surprised that they are just now doing this.

    1. Schantel

Disney is not cashless. I was there in October and used cash every day.

  3. Madeleine

This has been a thing for most parks over the last few years.
Soon will be the industry standard.
I doubt it will hurt Universals bottom line if some people “won’t visit anymore”

  4. Walt

Yup – cashless worked out so well in Canada when the government forced the banks to lock people out of their accounts. Lime lemmings over a cliff

    1. Mark Denunzio

Right on fellow Canadian…next will b digital id

  5. David

I haven’t used cash at Universal for years!!!

Where can you pay with anything with cash now?

When I travel overseas I only use credit cards sky way…. faster… safer… easier.

My 80 year old mother might be the only person bothered by this change.

    1. ARG

You would be wrong. Blindly being forced to pay by electronic means blindly paying fees!

    2. John

Well, you should go to Germany where only cash is the common form of payment. No cards whasover .

    3. AJ

Tap payment is no safer than any other card payments method, and having a bit of cash on you is always a good thing to practice. the good ice cream stands Always take cash ^-^

This is a drive to control citizens and for banks to make money. First, it is not legal to refuse US currency; 2nd we are all being shoved into the tech tracking system despite the desire for privacy and security. 3rd we are all starting to see the up charges being forced on to us by these companies -fees that can be in the hundreds of dollars, surcharges for no reason, convenience fees despite the customer doing the work, etc. Does anyone besides me see how we are being manipulated into paying significantly more for the products through endless fees?!?! We travel frequently, I have seen fees for dining in aka sanitation fees, surcharges for pickup orders, convenience fees for ME doing the work that saved the company money (self checkouts, online or kiosk ordering, etc. Gratuities where the company keeps the money for the work a wait staff member does or cruise staff member with a “required demand of percentage”. Demanding a percent is not a gratuity; Gratuities are earned by an individual for a job well done not owed by the customer!! Our laws are not protecting us and our governments are adding fuel to the fire with the local and city governments adding their fees to get a piece of the pie. Take a look at hotel costs; review your restaurant receipts; Google the amount of taxes you are paying on fuel – every government entity is robbing the customer.

Exactly! They charge a fee for gift cards! What if my child is on a field trip and wants to buy a soda? She doesn’t have debit cards! This is ridiculous

    2. Chris

It is absolutely legal for a private company or person to refuse cash as payment.

Well the future is coming like it or not. Went to Universal Hollywood last year 1st time there. A lot of the smaller brick & mortar places around town were cashless. Currently the only cash I use is to buy a lottery ticket from time to time. Otherwise it’s direct deposit, auto pay (when a discount is offered) , I haven’t bought gas for my Hybrid car with actual currency in probably 15yrs or longer, fast food purchases. And the list goes on. The future of cashless started over 20 years ago when practically business started excepting credit cards. And ask yourself this how happy were you when you got your 1st debit card and realized you now have access to your funds 24/7? I know in the 80’s when they 1st came out I was really happy. So as a person who has watched “change” happen gradually at times and then an occasional hop forward that triggers the haters to hate. Yes fees are getting tacked on. And yes big banks big pharma are all wanting there piece of your financial pie. But I am not going off the grid to avoid paying them. We are going to Universal Florida later this year. We are all looking forward to it. It was our decision to go. Not Universal making us go. We chose to go . No one forcing us. So in my little Ole opinion it’s easier to balance the checkbook if the checkbook is digital. And let’s face it people steal, with everything going up but my pay, is making people desperate. Honest people working hard but still can’t make ends meet might make a bad decision when cash is involved. And the cost of handling the money, processing the cash, auditing the cash then the armored car to take it to the bank. Digital just works better in 2026.

All I read is boomer blah blah blah. Going CASHLESS isn’t illegal. A lot of places including restaurants are doing this. Get with the times.

    4. Ec

Elite control, bank control, that was mentioned in WEF two years ago, now they are doing it.

    5. Jacqueline

I totally agree. This also away to keep tabs on us. To keep record of everything we purchase and where we go. What we spend our money on. Adventually they want to go to cashless society. This is just getting us slowly used to it.

  7. John

Well, you should go to Germany where only cash is the common form of payment. No cards whatsover .

  8. Michael

I never bring cash to the parks. Its annoying and should be cashless only anyway. Get with the times, or get out.

very rude comments here. I dont mind it being cashless, Disney has been doing it for a while at their popcorn stands, etc. A person gets used to it………..The only thing I dont like about it is having a statement a mile long on the bank websites , 6 dollars here, 10 dollars there, its crazy, BUT get receipts and keep track of all your spending. Also some people cannot get credit cards for one reason or another, I guess gift cards are for them. I do like my app for a certain coffee place, its easy to p ull up on my phone and I know how much I have to spend there. I guess its how a person changes with the times, some people dont understand .

  9. Bryant

I will never come to your park ever again if you don’t honor cash and you do not get my business I think it’s appalling that you’re doing this

    1. Oingo

So you’re saying that you’ll go nowhere in the future? Dang sucks for you.

  10. Herb

I usually always pay cash. Almost everywhere you go they charge you a fee to use a card. At the gas station it’s an extra 10 cents to use your card. When your vehicle holds over 30 gallons that starts to add up. At 39 I prefer cash. At least gas stations and grocery stores accept cash and I can pay my bills with a check.

  11. Steve

Ive not used cash in a water park for years.
Most of the good ones allow you to add credit to a wristband to spend througout the day, so you can leave valuables in a locker.
Any unspent funds get refunded at the ene of the day.
I hope universal do the same.

  12. lorraine cramer

I am not fond of cashless at counters where you only spend like 6 dollars for a pop , etc, It makes for a lot of sales on the credit card. I dont mind using a card to buy sweatshirts, etc because we dont buy as many of them or shirts, etc and its a more expensive purchase. Just to buy a popcorn, or an ice cream several times a day along with the pop, is rediculous.
