That is complete bunk, cancelling The Last Ronin to focus on children friendly content… have they not heard they could do BOTH?!?! If the comics did so well, they could still make bank off a Last Ronin film, doesn’t even have to be live action (though it would be cool. And if they do it animated, at least use the style that was used in Injustice 2, the turtles looked really good on that
This makes as much sense as Netflix cancelling shows that do phenomenal on the service, while renewing junk series.

These guys don’t seem to realise that the 80s and early 90s craze targeted kids who have now grown to be adults that still love the franchise. By all means, target things as kids! But you’ve got an audience that’s been there for decades and they’re going to be a large portion of the people who shell out for toys and collector figures, and a good creator can market toward both groups. (I say this as someone who wasn’t actually keen on The Last Ronin in particular, but it’d still be nice to have movies that weren’t completely marketed toward the very young set.)

Side note on that: Rise of the TMNT was an inspired choice that ended before its time that appealed to both markets and only failed due to some abysmal marketing, Nick self-sabotaging, and a godawful toy line. With Mattel now on board, this could probably be salvaged and make a lot of fans extremely happy with its return from “hard pause”. Probably a pipe dream, I know, but it’s a thought.
