He’s behind the scenes shows don’t just show us the cool special effects and how they did it. It gives people insight into the real intentions of the creators, and helps us understand why they did what they did.
It also counters a lot of the criticism and inaccurate imaginings of harsh critics, such as the superficial misunderstandings around the Star Wars prequel movies.
The first three episodes of the behind the scenes show delving into the making of the mandalorian changed my entire view of Star Wars and what Lucas was trying to tell through those stories. The ilm documentary gave amazing insight and a deeper understanding of the real contributions that Lucas made to the film industry, even beyond the amazing stories.
The behind the scenes shows on the making of Disney classics did the same thing for Disney. It doesn’t just show people how it was done, it helps people understand why it was done, what the real message and intentions were behind the content.
On top of that, it also gives us extra content while the streaming platform is building, an extremely lacking in New content. Individually it may not make them much money, but they seem to fail to understand the bigger picture, as so many business owners do across the entertainment industry. In order to maintain subscription customers, the subscription itself has to be worth it, which means you have to have enough content to keep people interested. That’s where Disney is shooting themselves in the foot, especially when it comes to keeping their more intelligent and deeper minded customers.
I’m a psychologist, therapist and fortunate level business coach. If I could reach the executives directly, this is just the beginning of what I would tell him.
Throwing away or not bringing back content due to inaccurate superficial discrimination, such as the claims that the movie that contained the short brer rabbit and the tar baby was racist, takes away some of the best content. That and other movies and shows like it showed us the real heart and wisdom of those from other cultures, and made us respect them, not think less of them. That brer rabbit short wasn’t even African; that story is Native American.
Catering to ignorance and political agenda is only hurting their performance. I grew up on Daniel Boone, Davy crockett, Swamp Fox, Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, but most of those classics aren’t even available on the streaming platform, despite being some of their best work.
These companies need to stop looking only at the small picture, and look at the big picture, especially from the perspective of the customer, not just their ignorant theories about us. Profit is not the only measure of performance. They’re not just losing people because of the lack of quality of some of their products, but because they have lost our faith and loyalty caring about their own perspective, and not ours. They listen too much to critics, and not enough to their loyal fans. Negative voices they fear are more important to them then the positive. That is their true failure, and what they need to correct if they’re going to turn this Titanic around.
