I hope I’m wrong, but I think this will likely be the death of the franchise. I’m not a Robbie fan, and I wouldn’t touch her insipid Barbie movie with a ten-foot cutlass. She seems very wrong for the franchise in almost every way. I hate “reboots’ in general, which very rarely live up to the originals. I don’t mind a continuation of the existing Pirates universe in a different direction with new stars, but if they try to remake anything that Depp already did, they’ll lose the entire fan base. CONTINUATION in (and with homage to everything that has gone before in) the same universe what they need, NOT a reboot.

Wow I’m shocked. Who could have seen the destruction of another IP for boys and its replacement with chick power. Its not sufficient that Disney creates a bunch of irrelevant princesses (Tiana) but now they have to chickify every IP.
Margot is beautiful, and a very good actress. That being said, she is by no means a “guaranteed huge box office” star. Barbie was huge because it was a live action version of a cultural icon. It would have been huge regardless who played the lead (Robbie, Elle F, Shipka, Saoirse, Seyfried, Britt R, or perhaps a new face). Birds of Prey is considered a bomb and can’t really name another movie where Margot carried a movie to huge profits on her name alone. She’s got the chops, just not the charisma to put butts in seats. I will wait for it to hit Amazon Prime.
