For most Walt Disney World guests, the pandemic closures feel like ancient history at this point. The parks are packed again. Resort lobbies are bustling. Restaurants are running at full speed. And in many ways, it feels like Disney World has completely moved on from the era of cancelled vacations, reduced entertainment, and “temporarily unavailable” signs that seemed to last forever.

But for longtime Disney fans, there has still been one lingering reminder that the pandemic wasn’t fully in the rearview mirror.

One final closure. One final experience that never came back.

Until now.

After nearly six years of being unavailable, Disney World has officially announced the reopening of one of its most iconic resort dining experiences: The Garden View Tea Room at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

The Tea Room is scheduled to reopen on March 19, and for many guests, this is more than just another restaurant reopening. It marks the end of a 2,190-day gap that has quietly stood as the last major pandemic-era closure still hanging over Walt Disney World.

A Disney Experience That’s Been Missing for Nearly Six Years

While Disney World has spent the last few years reopening attractions, rebuilding entertainment schedules, and bringing back fan-favorite offerings, The Garden View Tea Room has remained absent from the lineup.

And it’s honestly been strange.

The Grand Floridian is one of Disney World’s most iconic resorts, known for its upscale atmosphere, Victorian elegance, and premium dining options. The Tea Room has always fit perfectly into that identity, giving guests something rare in the theme park world: a quiet, slow-paced, sit-down experience that feels like a true escape.

But after closing for the pandemic, it never returned. Month after month, year after year, fans kept waiting for Disney to finally bring it back.

Now, after nearly six years, it’s finally happening.

The Garden View Tea Room Reopens March 19

Disney World has confirmed that The Garden View Tea Room will officially reopen on March 19.

This is a major update for Grand Floridian guests, especially because this location has been one of the most talked-about “missing” experiences on property since 2020.

Disney is also giving the Tea Room a fresh start, with reports indicating the interior has undergone a major renovation. Even more interesting, the new menu will feature an Alice in Wonderland theme, giving the reopening a reimagined twist instead of simply bringing the experience back exactly as it was.

For Disney fans who love unique dining experiences, this is a big deal. Afternoon tea is already something you don’t see everywhere, and Disney turning it into a themed, storybook-style experience makes it feel even more special.

Prices Have Been Revealed for the New Tea Experience

Along with the reopening date, pricing details have also been shared.

The afternoon tea experience will reportedly cost:

  • $79 per adult

  • $49 per child (ages 3 to 9)

That places it firmly in the “special occasion” category, but for many guests, that’s exactly what it has always been. The Tea Room isn’t meant to be a quick snack stop. It’s designed to feel like an event, the kind of thing you plan around.

Disney also revealed that guests will be able to choose from eight different tea options, including an exclusive tea blend called Orangery of Lady Grey.

Reservations Opened and Immediately Sold Out

If you were hoping to casually grab a reservation for opening week, there’s bad news.

Reservations reportedly opened on February 19, and within minutes, the Tea Room was already sold out as far as the calendar extended.

That’s not surprising, considering how long Disney fans have been waiting for this to return. For some guests, it’s not even about the food. It’s about finally getting to experience something they’ve missed for years, or something they never got to try in the first place.

The demand was so intense that some guests reported being online at 6:00 a.m., but not being able to successfully book until nearly 7:00 a.m., which suggests Disney may have been doing a slow rollout of reservation availability.

And if this is any indication of how popular the reopening will be, it’s safe to assume the Tea Room is going to become one of the most difficult dining reservations at Disney World for the foreseeable future.

Why This Reopening Feels Bigger Than Just a Restaurant

Disney World has reopened plenty of dining locations over the last few years. Some returned quietly. Some came back with new menus. Others were completely redesigned.

But The Garden View Tea Room reopening hits differently, because it feels symbolic.

For a long time, Disney World fans have treated this as the “final missing piece” from the pandemic era. It’s been the last major experience people could point to and say, “Disney still hasn’t fully brought everything back.”

Now, that conversation is finally over.

When the Tea Room reopens on March 19, it will mark the end of Disney World’s last lingering pandemic closure, closing the book on a chapter that stretched far longer than anyone expected.
