Rumors of a crossover between Star Wars and Marvel gained traction earlier this month, fueled by social media chatter and trade-site aggregation. Now, that speculation has been firmly shut down, with new reporting suggesting the project was never real to begin with.
Why Star Wars and Marvel Are Under the Microscope
Both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars remain in transitional periods, grappling with audience fatigue, shifting creative strategies, and pressure to reassert cultural dominance after uneven post-peak years.

For Marvel, the post-Avengers: Endgame (2019) era has been marked by inconsistency. While critical and box office hits like Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) proved the brand still has pull, Disney+ output has drawn mixed reactions. Some cinematic efforts have even struggled to make a profit, such as The Marvels (2023) and Thunderbolts* (2025).
Upcoming films such as Avengers: Doomsday (2026) are positioned as course correction moments rather than simple continuations.
Star Wars faces a similar challenge. Since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) failed to impress fans (even if it did take home over $1 billion), Lucasfilm has not released a theatrical feature, instead pivoting aggressively toward Disney+ with projects like The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Acolyte.

That expansion brought early success but also criticism, with detractors pointing to oversaturation, uneven quality, and ballooning costs. Lucasfilm is now preparing for its theatrical return with The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) – a film made with a significantly lower budget than other Star Wars projects that’s said to play a part in deciding Lucasfilm’s next step at the box office.
Against that backdrop, the idea of a Marvel–Star Wars crossover — even in comics — felt like a potential spark. It promised novelty, conversation, and the sense of risk that both brands have struggled to generate organically.
Report Debunks the ‘Star Wars’-Marvel Crossover Rumor
That momentum, however, collapsed just as quickly. In its Heat Vision email newsletter, The Hollywood Reporter (via Star Wars News Net) directly addressed the circulating claim, dismissing it outright.

The outlet reported that the rumored crossover comic — allegedly involving Marvel, Star Wars, and Avengers characters, with writer Mark Millar attached — is not in development and never was.
Heat Vision claimed that the situation was “another example of the Internet being stupid.” Sources indicated there is no such project, no publisher coordination, and no behind-the-scenes groundwork underway.
The newsletter added a tongue-in-cheek sign-off, advising readers to “have some blue milk and cookies.”
How the Speculation Snowballed
The original claim gained traction after Rob Liefeld posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, suggesting a Star Wars and Avengers crossover was in the works. That post was quickly amplified by fan sites and aggregators.

The rumor’s plausibility was reinforced by Marvel Comics’ recent crossover activity. In the past year, Marvel characters have crossed paths with the likes of Alien, Predator, and Godzilla, signaling an increased appetite for external collaborations.
Because both Marvel and Star Wars fall under The Walt Disney Company, the leap felt logical to many fans. Notably, neither Marvel nor Lucasfilm commented publicly as the rumor spread. While there’s a chance a similar project could come to fruition in the future, for now, that feels doubtful.
