On February 18, Walt Disney World Resort filed a Notice of Commencement for “General Construction” at 2221C Orleans Dr, the approximate address of the splash pad and water park area at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter.

Like many Notice of Commencement filings from Walt Disney World Resort, the document itself doesn’t provide much information about what’s planned for the splash park area. However, there are some hints about the upcoming project.

The document was filed by Disney’s Facility Asset Management, not Walt Disney Imagineering, indicating that the work is maintenance-related rather than a significant overhaul. It lists third-party contractor Vermana, which specializes in pool resurfacing and electrical and mechanical repairs. Their ties to the project strengthen the theory that Disney is focused on upkeep and refurbishment rather than an overhaul.

The nearby Doubloon Lagoon pool area at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter underwent significant refurbishment in 2024, so it’s unlikely the actual pool will be affected by the work planned under the recent Notice of Commencement.

Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any closures related to the Notice of Commencement filed on Wednesday. However, a temporary shutdown of the splash park area at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter may be necessary when maintenance work begins.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside is unaffected by the Notice of Commencement, but Disney is currently refurbishing rooms throughout the sister property.
