Food service personal, be it take service or task-out, should be subject to tipping and it’s the take-out that get the short end of the deal. They’re paid low with the understanding that they will be tipped. There needs to be a record of tipping to allow businesses to continue to pay low, so to save face, they tag on the mandatory tip to pay their own more appropriately. And those tips are spread out to everyone on that shift.
THAT being said, cast members in the past have been very cruel when it comes to tipping after receiving a generous cast discount off 20+ depending on promotion. The foods cast spoke loudly on this topic several years ago during union negotiations and approved a mandatory 18% gratuity on all cast purchases. Good for th them. Bottom line is; it’s not just about the out of pocket experience, it’s paying for the experience as well as the food.

I tip generously at dine in (25/30 %) but if I walk up to a counter to order ,pay and I’m handed my order, such as BURGER KING, Starbucks I’m not tipping. I don’t tip the cook at a sit down restaurant, I tip the person waiting on me at a table. I went to a place where they handed me an empty cup when I paid and I walked over to the coffee machine to fill myself, they had a tip jar ( to hand me an empty cup) REALLY. Tipping has gotten out of control, tipping is for excellent service, the better the service the better the tip, and, yes, I did work as a waitress.

The whole tipping culture in this country has gotten WAY out of hand. Tipping is for table service, not places where I have to wait in line for my food and clean up after myself.
