Walt Disney World Resort guests recently spotted the destruction of the entrance to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at the Magic Kingdom. This marks a rare public look into the ongoing reimagining of the interactive Tomorrowland attraction, which is scheduled to reopen sometime this spring.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Reimagining
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin welcomed its final astronauts in August of 2025 before closing for a months-long refurbishment. The interactive shooting attraction, which originally opened in 1998, had grown increasingly outdated, especially compared to the newer Toy Story Mania! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Walt Disney Imagineers announced plans to introduce updated, more accurate laser blasters into the ride vehicles and to construct improved interactive targets throughout the attraction. The overhaul will include new scenes and an all-new animatronic character, Buddy. The robot will teach guests how to use their laser blasters, shoot targets, and get the most out of their adventure into the galaxy.
Walt Disney World Resort has confirmed that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will reopen sometime in the spring of 2026, but hasn’t announced an exact date. However, several recent photos from Disney Park guests suggest the debut timeline might fall closer to the end of spring than the beginning.
Guests Share Demolition Photos

On January 27, X (formerly Twitter) user @kdodgers24 shared photos of the entrance to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, as seen from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. Although plywood walls block the demolition from guests on the ground, it’s impossible to hide the torn-up concrete and construction equipment from guests looking down from above.

This is some of the first visible work outside the Tomorrowland attraction, as most of the updates have taken place internally. @Thesolardude also shared a photo taken from the PeopleMover last weekend:

The photos indicate that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is anything but show-ready. However, even though the Tomorrowland ride’s entrance doesn’t look ready to open, construction work on the exterior of the building could indicate that the actual ride system updates are nearing completion, and crews are completing cosmetic finishing touches before its grand reopening.
