Here is my input… and I’m sure the Disney Adults will not like it (I used to be one, til the model focused on greed, alphabet people, and erasing the past).
The parks are being stocked with CM’s from this new generation, people who think raising your voice is a form of violence and their feelings are more important than yours, so I’m not surprised that the CMs not only acted like it was “normal”, but also did not intervene with the angry/distraught guests. It’s like they are afraid to be involved, and would rather wait for yet another guest to need an ambulance than prevent the situation. So when the guest attempted to seek a CMs help with that situation, and prevent actual violence that night, the CM gave the generic and hands-off response.
I believe the story, I can see it play out, and I believe that Disney is letting it happen. They hire people based in their alphabet affiliation instead of their love for the company, and probably train them now to not engage, and to value self-preservation over guest safety.
Long ago, in the ancient times before Covid, guests respected CM’s and each other… I had never heard of guests in fist fights, guests screaming at CMs, and a death on property was extremely rare, not as normal as a rain storm in Florida. Yes, I know bad things happened in the parks, and trust me, there were plenty of moments when I wondered why I wasted my money on the place… why I subjected myself to horrific crowds and heat and prices (albeit lower prices than now)… It’s because WDW was magic, and the experience overall was magical. My children believed they were meeting Mickey (in all the costumes), and I hid my disgust at paying $5 for a bottle of soda, all because at the end of the day, it was the happiest place on earth… Well… that’s long gone, and it’s thanks to the new Disney, not the new guests.
I’ll take my business to Busch Gardens in Tampa, thanks, because they didn’t hop on Veteran Appreciation band wagon in an effort to grasp at straws, Busch Gardens invented it! Those employees don’t pretend to care, they actually are nice and helpful, and Locals like me! Anyway, if you read down this far, thanks … getting off the soap box now!
