It finally appears that Disney is embracing its darker side. After watching its neighbor, Universal Orlando, create its own Dark Universe, Disney embraced its Villains and is currently in the process of building them their own land at Magic Kingdom.

Disney also let some of its Villains branch out into theaters, allowing them to tell their backstories. Maleficent (2014) and Cruella (2021) put some humanity behind those evil characters, and now, it appears that a third Disney Villain, and perhaps the best Disney Villain (at least in his opinion), is getting a feature film.
According to Deadline, Disney is developing a live-action feature film centered on Gaston from the 1991 animated film Beauty and the Beast. According to the report, Dave Callaham is writing the script, and Michelle Rejwan is producing. There is currently no director attached to the project.

Following the success of the live-action Beauty and the Beast (2017), rumors surfaced that Disney was developing a Gaston show for Disney+, which would have featured the return of Luke Evans in the title role and Josh Gad as LeFou. However, that project has since been scrapped.
There are currently very few details about the live-action Gaston film; however, Evans will not be returning to the title role. Given Gaston’s fate at the end of Beauty and the Beast (spoiler alert: he died), the film would have to be a prequel and could require a younger actor for the role.

Callaham is no stranger to working for Disney. He wrote the Marvel film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), as well as films in The Expendables series. Rejwan has also worked for Disney before, having overseen live-action at Lucasfilm. She produced Star Wars: the Force Awakens, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. She also produced the Willow series for Disney+.

Given that it is so early in the process, there are no actors attached to play the Disney Villain who uses antlers in all of his decorating, but it’s exciting news that Gaston will soon be coming to the big screen.
