From classic thrill rides to legendary dark rides, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during their time at the Disney theme parks.

Disneyland is known for its collection of old-school attractions like Peter Pan’s Flight, Alice in Wonderland, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and Haunted Mansion, where Walt Disney World is more famous for its selection of high-intensity experiences like Expedition Everest and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, though both have at least one thing in common: a castle.

Whether guests are visiting Disneyland Park or the Magic Kingdom, they can bet their Mickey ears they will see a princess castle. The same is true worldwide, with nearly all of Disney’s theme parks featuring some type of royal castle.

These castles aren’t just decoration, but landmarks, and are often one of the main draws of the parks themselves. Part of what makes the castles so special is that they rarely change. Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle has undergone several paint jobs over the years, but it remains essentially the same as it has always been.

However, in Tokyo, one of Disney’s castles will soon be sporting several new looks.

Tokyo Disney Resort has announced a new special event, Minnie’s Funderland, for 2026. The nighttime event will take place from January 14 to March 2, 2026, and will include all kinds of special environmental effects.

At the center of it all is Cinderella Castle, which will get multiple new Minnie Mouse-inspired makeovers.

Alongside the castle’s refreshed look, work will ramp up significantly next year on the resort’s Space Mountain, which is currently undergoing a major renovation. Tokyo Disney announced the project several years ago, revealing that its version of Space Mountain would close and be rebuilt from the ground up.

The classic roller coaster shut down for good in 2024, marking the dawn of an exciting new era for the theme park resort.

The project also includes a refurbishment of Tomorrowland. Over the last several months, guests have been able to watch as parts of the futuristic land change completely.

The new Space Mountain is set to open sometime in 2027.
