On Wednesday, December 3, Walt Disney World Resort guests arriving at the Magic Kingdom found a portion of the iconic Main Street, U.S.A., blocked off, inaccessible both to visitors and cast members. Due to the sudden disruption, the Main Street Trolley is currently not running, and the Dapper Dans have made adjustments to their daily performances.

According to WDWNT, Walt Disney World Resort installed two sets of stanchions in the middle of Main Street, U.S.A., overnight. These barricades block a large portion of the center of the roadway, closest to the Crystal Arts store. Main Street, U.S.A., is still open, but the barricades prevent Disney Park guests and cast members from stepping on a damaged section of pavement.

The affected pavement, which is surrounded by trolley tracks on both sides, is severely cracked, with significant gaps, especially near the trolley tracks. Everyone who has ever visited Magic Kingdom Park knows that these tracks are already a tripping hazard, so the cracked pavement makes the area even more dangerous for guests.

It’s unclear whether an incident on Tuesday caused the damage to worsen or whether it was long-term wear and tear that finally reached a tipping point.

Know Before You Go To Magic Kingdom

Due to the damaged pavement, the Main Street Trolley did not run as usual on the morning of Wednesday, December 3.

The Dapper Dans quartet still performed, but instead of riding the trolley, they appeared in a jitney car. The jitney car typically follows the tracks but moves independently, allowing it to reroute around the stanchions.

It’s unclear when Main Street, U.S.A., will return to normal operations. However, when stanchions like this have appeared around damaged walkways in the past, Walt Disney World Resort typically repairs the issue quickly. The Main Street Trolley could return to Magic Kingdom Park as soon as December 4, if Disney cast members repair the walkway overnight.
