The original Home Alone (1990) and its sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), remain iconic holiday films, widely remembered for Macaulay Culkin’s portrayal of young Kevin McCallister and his inventive booby traps.
The series has since expanded with four more sequels; however, Culkin and director Chris Columbus recently criticized those later films.
“Sorry to insult anybody, but they’ve completely f**ked it [the franchise] up,” Columbus told The Hollywood Reporter. “It started with Home Alone 3 and then it just went downhill from there; Home Alone 3 is sort of the best of the bunch of the bad movies.”

Recently, Culkin suggested a new direction for the series, pitching an idea for a true follow-up that would continue Kevin’s story in a way that would be faithful to the original films.
During a stop on his “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin” tour (per Variety), the 45-year-old actor said that he “wouldn’t be completely allergic” to returning as his iconic character, Kevin McCallister — provided the story is handled “just right.”

Now, amid ongoing interest in the Home Alone franchise (largely due to the fact that the original film is celebrating its 35th anniversary, and it’s nearly Christmas), Saturday Night Live has aired a short parody featuring American pop-singer and actress Ariana Grande as Kevin McCallister during her time presenting the show. Watch the new SNL sketch below:
In the short, Kevin’s parents return home to learn the hard way that their son has forgotten to disarm his traps, resulting in a series of over-the-top and incredibly violent mishaps that feel better placed in one of the Final Destination movies.
Grande, best known for her music career, recently starred in the blockbuster sequel Wicked For Good, the sequel to last year’s Wicked, which showcased her versatility as a performer.
While fans await any potential official continuation of the Home Alone storyline, Grande’s sketch serves as a playful, chaotic reminder of Kevin McCallister’s enduring legacy. It also underscores the continuing cultural relevance of the original two films.
All six Home Alone movies are now streaming on Disney+.
