Thanksgiving has disappeared, and Christmas has taken over the Walt Disney World Resort, but that doesn’t mean that the construction projects at the resort have slowed down. In fact, many of them have started to accelerate, especially at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

New aerial photos posted on X (formerly Twitter) by @bioreconstruct show the progress of the work currently happening at Hollywood Studios, including the work being done on Monstropolis, the new Monsters, Inc. Land, and the new Magic of Disney Animation experience.

Magic of Disney Animation

In the photos provided by @bioreconstruct, you can see the work being done on the new Magic of Disney Animation Experience. Construction crews are prepping what appears to be a large pad area, possibly for the return of Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat to Hollywood Studios.

In the photos, the buildings have been stripped of their signage, including Star Wars Launch Bay. However, the Disney Jr. signage remains, even though the building received a new coat of paint. The building that houses The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure also received a fresh coat of paint.

The new pad area could also be part of the new playground area coming to the Magic of Disney Animation, which is set to open sometime in 2026.

Monstropolis

This area will require significantly more work to update the former Muppets Courtyard and transform it into Monstropolis. The new photos show the floor construction and holes drilled into the Earth to help support the massive coaster.

Some of the photos also show the pad for what appears to be the show building for the new coaster. You can also see what the old Muppets Courtyard area was and how that relates to the new Monsters, Inc. Land.

The new Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster will be located a little further back in the new land, allowing it to overtake a portion of the cast member parking area at Hollywood Studios. The new coaster will occupy approximately 10 acres of the parking area.

This will make the new coaster absolutely massive. The Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster building will be over 103,000 square feet, making it the largest building at Hollywood Studios and surpassing Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, which measures 92,000 square feet.

The new building’s size will make it the second-largest attraction on Disney World property, behind only Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT. Beyond its size, the new ride will be Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster.

There is no opening date for the new Monsters, Inc. Land, but most expect that it won’t be open until at least 2028. For now, we’ll have to just settle for the photos of its progress and hope for what comes next.
