Every year, it feels like Christmas just creeps up on us. There are weeks of anticipation and decorations, and before you know it, the holiday is upon us.

And then, it’s over. The decorations are put away, the tree is taken out of the house, and you have to wait another year to hear Mariah Carey sing.
The same can be said for the holiday season at Disney World and Disneyland, except their Christmas seasons last much longer. Unlike most people, the Disney Parks begin decorating for the holidays in early November and don’t put away the festivities until early January. It’s nearly two full months of holiday celebrations at the Disney Parks.

When Disneyland puts away its Christmas decorations on January 7, the park also plans some major refurbishments for 11 of its rides that will be closing in early 2026. Here’s the list of rides that will be closing at Disneyland next month.
Disneyland’s 11 Closures
Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be closing for its first-ever refurbishment on January 20. Since the ride opened in 2020, it has not shut down for an extended refurbishment, so after five-plus years, it’s time for it to take a break. Unfortunately for Star Wars fans, there is currently no reopening date.

Two of Disneyland’s most popular rides will be closing down to remove their Christmas overlays. The Haunted Mansion will be closed from January 12 to 22, while “it’s a small world” will close on January 26, with no reopening date yet announced. In the past, it’s only taken two weeks to return “it’s a small world” to its original state.
On Rivers of America, the Mark Twain Riverboat and the Sailing Ship Columbia will be shutting down in January. The Mark Twain will be down from January 12 to 15, while Columbia ends its run on January 26 with no return date yet announced.

“Fantasmic” will be shutting down throughout the month. It will be closed from January 5 to 8, January 11 to 15, January 18 to 22, and January 25 to 29. In Fantasyland, Pixie Hollow will be closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays in January, following a 10-month refurbishment.
Over in Disney’s California Adventure, The Incredicoaster and Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind are both closing on January 5. The Inside Out attraction will reopen on January 22, while there is still no reopening date for Incredicoaster.

Grizzly River Run will shut down on January 5, while Redwood Creek Challenge will close on January 8. Neither of them has an announced return date yet.
That’s all 11 of Disneyland’s rides that will be closing in January. So, much like our collective mindset for the month, Disneyland will be a little sad throughout January.
