A Series of Deaths at Walt Disney World Resort

This upsetting news follows a difficult October at Walt Disney World Resort. On October 14, rumors circulated about a Walt Disney World Monorail colliding with a guest at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Guests were cleared from part of the lobby of the Magic Kingdom area Resort hotel.

However, authorities later revealed that the Monorail didn’t come into contact with a guest. They announced that a 31-year-old woman named Summer Equitz had died by suicide after falling from a balcony. Family members, who called Equitz a Disney superfan, had previously reported her missing in the Central Florida area.

Days later, on October 21, first responders rushed to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds following reports of a “person down.” Authorities eventually confirmed that an unidentified man in his 60s had died of natural causes after suffering a medical episode at the Disney Resort hotel.

Then, on October 23, viral videos showed crime scene tape and a white tent near the pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Guests said Disney cast members blocked windows and knocked on hotel room doors to urge families not to look out their balconies.

A few days later, authorities confirmed that a 28-year-old man named Matthew Cohn died after falling from a balcony in Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Cohn reportedly checked into a 12th-floor room at the Disney Resort the night before and paid in cash. The medical examiner said the man died of “multiple traumatic injuries” resulting from an intentional fall and classified the manner of death as suicide.

Inside the Magic sends condolences to the friends and family affected by this tragedy at Disney’s Pop Century Resort.
