A video circulating on social media shows an entire Disney park going dark after a sudden power outage during a nighttime fireworks show. The entire Main Street, U.S.A., and Sleeping Beauty Castle area went dark as thousands of panicked spectators tried to decipher whether the abrupt disruption was planned or an indication of an emergency situation.

The incident took place during a recent performance of the Disney Tales of Magic nighttime spectacular, which premiered in Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris Resort in January 2025. The fireworks show combines state-of-the-art projection technology and stunning pyrotechnics to inspire dreamers of all ages with tales from Disney stories like Cinderella (1950), Pinocchio (1940), Encanto (2021), and Lilo & Stitch (2002).

The video, shared on Instagram by @my_castle_club, was taken during the Tangled (2010) segment of the Disneyland Paris Resort fireworks show. Like Happily Ever After at Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom Park, this section features projected, glowing lanterns floating up the spires of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

After a firework goes off, Sleeping Beauty Castle and all of the glowing lights on Main Street, U.S.A., go dark. The park is pitch-black except for a few glowing headbands and other accessories worn by guests. Some visitors shriek, others laugh, and one exclaims, “What?!”

Just a few seconds later, the lights gradually come back on, and the video ends. Watch below:

The video amassed thousands of likes and comments on Instagram. Many French residents who live near Marne-la-Vallée (the city where Disneyland Paris Resort is located) said they also experienced a short power outage that evening.

“It was all the area!” said @cateatdiz. “It went down in my house too.”

“The same thing happened at my house,” @marianasmconstantino replied. “It happened throughout the Val d’Europe area.”

What Happened After the Fireworks Stopped?

In the clip, it’s unclear whether Disneyland Park immediately continued the Disney Tales of Magic nighttime spectacular or made an announcement about the power failure to guests. However, one commenter who claimed to be at Disneyland Paris Resort that day said the power outage caused several technical difficulties even after the show resumed. Ultimately, it was canceled, and everyone was asked to leave Disneyland Park.

“I was there when this happened and watching the fireworks for the first time ever at DLP,” @natalieeforsyth recalled. “The power did come back on pretty quickly and the music kept playing but the projections were non-existent and the fireworks completely stopped so in the end they just cut the music and said ‘due to unforeseen circumstances this will conclude the fireworks show this evening. The park is now closed.’ And kicked us out 😂.”

The Disney Park guest added that there were issues before the fireworks show began, long before the power outage affected Disneyland Paris Resort.

“It was weird though because before the show started they said ‘due to unforeseen circumstances we will be playing an adapted version,’” they continued. “So something in the background must not have been working correctly right from the start.”

It’s unclear whether that change was related to the power outage; often, Disney parks perform modified or adapted versions of shows due to inclement weather or technical issues behind the scenes.

Disneyland Paris Resort hasn’t issued a public statement about this incident during the Disney Tales of Magic nighttime spectacular. The fireworks show still performs at Disneyland Park most nights, but guests are encouraged to check the Disneyland Paris Resort website or official app for the most up-to-date showtimes.
