Disney’s early previews for Zootopia: Better Zoogether! have failed to attract the usual surge of enthusiasm from fans.

The upcoming attraction, which takes over the Tree of Life Theater at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, opened its Annual Passholder preview registration for November 5–6. Yet, unlike most new experiences that fill up almost immediately, several slots reportedly remain available.

For a company accustomed to seeing instant demand for anything new at Walt Disney World, this slower response has sparked speculation about whether Zootopia will make the strong debut Disney was hoping for.

The new 4D show replaces the long-running It’s Tough to Be a Bug! and aims to immerse guests in the bustling city of Zootopia through music, humor, and dynamic effects. Beloved characters like Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and Officer Clawhauser take center stage, with Clawhauser even appearing as a newly designed Audio-Animatronic.

The production is said to feature upbeat songs, colorful visuals, and plenty of kid-friendly energy, shifting the focus of the theater from the mischievous, tongue-in-cheek tone of its predecessor to a more mainstream, franchise-driven experience.

On Halloween, Disney shared the first look inside the Tree of Life Theater, which received a mixed response. Negativity surrounding Zootopia: Better Zoogether was spiked with these images, and many were brazen in calling out the replacement for It’s Tough to Be a Bug!

One X comment described it as a “fiasco” and stated that Animal Kingdom “deserved better,” while others claimed that the show is “woke.” When the experience officially opens on November 7, the discourse will only grow. The first look video can be viewed here:

As the discussion over the quality of Zootopia: Better Zoogether! rages on, Disney World has quietly begun another Tree of Life performance.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is bringing a touch of nighttime magic back to its signature icon, as the Tree of Life Awakenings projection show has officially returned to the park beginning November 1, 2025, per WDWMagic. The beloved after-dark experience, which transforms the Tree of Life into a living canvas of color and motion, now runs with updated showtimes through November 8.

On opening night, the show lit up Discovery Island at 7:15 p.m., before shifting to an earlier 6:15 p.m. start time from November 2 onward to align with shorter daylight hours and the end of Daylight Saving Time.

The return of Tree of Life Awakenings marks another example of how Animal Kingdom continues to enhance its evening offerings as the days grow shorter. The show utilizes projection technology to bring the park’s central icon to life, weaving music, light, and animation together across the intricate carvings that comprise the Tree’s trunk and branches.

Each brief sequence tells a story inspired by the park’s themes of nature and interconnected life, creating an emotionally rich and visually stunning finale to a day spent exploring the wild.

For guests visiting during the first week of November, this limited-time return offers a perfect chance to experience Animal Kingdom after dark—a side of the park often overlooked compared to its daytime adventures. With its earlier start times, Tree of Life Awakenings offers visitors the chance to end their evening on a high note before the park closes, transforming a quiet night into something truly unforgettable.

Beyond that, Animal Kingdom is already changing, with several reimaginings and new projects in development, including the transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. into the Tropical Americas.
