One would think that after having the biggest failure of your career, you would want to run and hide from it. However, live-action Snow White (2025) star Rachel Zegler just can’t stop talking about what some consider the worst film of the year.

In a recent interview with Glamour Magazine, Zegler kept coming back to her experiences this past few years remaking the Disney classic and the criticism it garnered from across the spectrum.

Zegler said, “Every experience I’ve had so far has been such a wonderful lesson learned. I loved working on Snow White, and I love that film. I’ve seen it a few times, and it became number one on streaming on Disney+, so I know that it’s celebrated. It was one of those experiences of sometimes negativity being louder than positivity.”

Disney has certainly run away from Zegler’s film. Unlike its live-action Little Mermaid counterpart, the new Snow White does not have a presence in Disney’s domestic parks. Disney is also trying to figure out how to recoup some of the millions it lost on the film.

Estimates suggest that Snow White cost Disney around $270 million to produce. It only made $205 million at the worldwide box office. Some estimates indicate that Disney could lose between $115 million and $200 million on the film.

While some of Disney’s losses will be offset by massive tax breaks from the British Government, and technically, the film was number one on Disney+, neither of these factors will help fill the giant hole it left in Disney’s wallet.

Snow White Controversies

When it was announced that Zegler, who is half Colombian, would take on the role of Snow White, there was an immediate backlash. Some labeled Disney “woke” for changing the main character to be more inclusive. The “woke” label stayed with Disney after it was revealed that Disney had replaced the seven dwarfs with seven “magical creatures.”

Disney delayed the release of Snow White from 2024 to 2025 to reshoot scenes and bring back the dwarfs. As a result, the film’s spending ballooned to over $270 million, not including publicity spending.

After getting the role, Zegler did not help to tamp down the “woke” controversies. She criticized the original film, calling it “weird” and Prince Charming a “stalker.”

After the election, she said that she hopes Donald Trump and his supporters “never know peace,” which they took as a threat. Zegler has since apologized for those remarks. Disney also scaled back the film’s premieres in London and Los Angeles to address some controversies.
