While Disney features a number of incredible rides and attractions at its various theme parks, one in particular quite literally stands above the rest. First opened in 1994 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (then Disney MGM Studios), the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror quickly became one of Disney’s most popular and beloved attractions of all time.

Over time, other versions and variations popped up across the world, including at Disneyland in California, as well as Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disney. While these rides are al different in their own way, the core experiences remains the same: strap in, rise up, and drop down.

It’s one of the most common ride types seen at theme parks, but what Disney achieved with its original Tower of Terror remains unmatched.

However, Disney’s rides aren’t “untouchable,” actually far from it, with all kinds of limited-time overlays and updates planned for a number of attractions. This now includes The Tower of Terror, which will be getting a makeover very soon.

Starting January 13, 2026, Tower of Terror at Tokyo DisneySea will become a new, “unlimited” version of itself. This overlay includes a new drop sequence, adding to the thrills and chills of the original ride. Tower of Terror Unlimited will run through March 31, 2026.

More on Tokyo DisneySea’s Tower of Terror:

In New York, 1912, stands the hotel known as the “Tower of Terror,” so called after the mysterious disappearance of its owner in 1899. Now, the New York City Preservation Society has finished restoring the infamous hotel, and started giving tours to the public. But what happens when you take the elevator to the top floor…?

From January 13 through March 31, 2026, Tower of Terror will be transformed into the popular special version Tower of Terror “Unlimited” with even more thrills. During this period, guests will be able to enjoy either Tower of Terror: Level 13 or Tower of Terror: Level 13 “Shadow of Shiriki” at random.

Tokyo Disney is also in the midst of updating its version of Space Mountain. The multi-year project began back in 2022, with the entirety of the classic roller coaster being rebuilt from the ground up. This is all part of a larger effort to redevelop Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland.
