Matterhorn Bobsleds

This roller coaster is a classic in every sense of the word, though it’s grown a rather negative reputation over the years. Taking riders high up in the Swiss Alps, Matterhorn Bobsleds is a really fun and iconic part of the original Disneyland Resort, but it’s certainly showing its age.

Riding the coaster can feel more like strapping yourself inside a washing machine during its spin cycle. Riders often complain that they get jerked and bumped around as the coaster makes its sharp turns and sudden drops.

Many consider Matterhorn Bobsleds to be one of the roughest rides in all of the Disney theme parks, and while we can definitely see this argument, there are a few other notable entries on this list.

Another classic, Space Mountain, is perhaps Disney’s most iconic and famous roller coaster ever. Versions of the space-themed thrill ride can be found all over the world, with places like Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland putting their own unique spins on the attraction.

However, the original version of the ride is found at the Magic Kingdom. Opened in 1975, Space Mountain is just as iconic as Cinderella Castle and Mickey Mouse himself. The white-domed exterior demands guests’ attention as they explore Tomorrowland, though if guests are planning to hop aboard, they’d better be prepared.

With Space Mountain being 50 years old, it should come as no surprise that it’s a bumpy experience. Each turn and drop feels scary in a way completely unique to Space Mountain, as if the ride vehicle itself is about to fly off the track.

Put simply, there’s nothing smooth about this coaster. Guests are flung to the left, the right, and nearly out of their seats as the coaster makes its journey through space.

It’s definitely fun, but you’d better hang on.

Mission: Space is a very weird attraction. It doesn’t really fit in with the rest of EPCOT, though we can’t really think of a better place to put it. Is it fun? Kinda. Is it unique? Definitely. Is it a good ride? Well…

This flight simulator is one of the most intense attractions at Walt Disney World. It is not your typical Disney thrill ride. Once guests strap in, there’s no going back.

Where most of Disney’s thrills come from its selection of roller coasters, Mission: Space gets its thrills from spinning riders around at incredibly fast speeds. Riders will feel intense G forces as they are hurled around the main centrifuge.

While likely not accurate to what real-life astronauts feel, Mission: Space certainly gives off the illusion of being inside a rocket as it launches. This can be really fun for some and a nightmare for others.

Dinosaur is one of Disney’s maps unique attractions ever. While the ride itself is pretty much a copy of Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure, Dinosaur ditches the Indiana Jones theming for something much scarier and more intense.

Rarely does Disney dip its toes into “scary” attractions, though the company has a history of creating some truly terrifying experiences. Dinosaur is perhaps the best example, taking riders on a mission back in time to save a certain kind of dinosaur.

This mission doesn’t go as planned, putting riders face-to-face with some of history’s most intimidating creatures. It’s loud, it’s dark, and it’s a whole lot of fun, though it’s a rough experience.

Riders are jostled around as they traverse through a prehistoric jungle. Every bump and rock in the road is felt as riders go up, down, and side to side.

Dinosaur is an enjoyable time, but hardly a comfortable one.
