I rarely comment on stories I read, however, this one I will. A female Voldemort? No, nope, and definitely not! I’m a woman but a female Voldemort is simply not going to work and I am sure I’m not the only Harry Potter fan to say this. It’s been years since I read the books but I don’t recall them stating that Voldemort was female. It’s not Thomasina Riddle. JMO here…

  2. lmariel

Ummmm…..that would be a definite NO!!!!!!!!

  3. Neda

Definitely not!!!!!! They’ve all ready screwed around with other characters. Unless they are going to make Tom Riddle a trans woman.

  4. old disney

The only reason they would do this is to piss people off. It does nor matter to me Im never going watch anyway with what they did with Snap but man we really have unintelligent people running things. Keep driving people away.

The anti-JKRowling crowd Deserves a SHE-who-shall-not-be-named. Bring her on baby !

    1. Rusty

I don’t think the Anti-Rowling crowd is supportive of women they are only supportive of trans women and that is why the whole fight has ensued. Apparently to be pro one you are anti the other which makes very little sense to me

  6. Make Liberals Cry Again

No! No! No! 👎🏻 Absolutely, N-O, NO!!!!

    1. Charles

No thank you if that is case I won’t be watching this mess

You’ve ruined the series. Hermione was never described as dark skinned or complexion. Whoever selected Snape’s character should be flogged. You’re better off using fanfiction as a base.basically your morons.
Thank you Ms. Rowling for your contribution of Harry Potter to our readers and movie buffs.

No. If Voldemorte is made into a female i will not be watching. I love the harry potter movies but using a female for a males role will ruin it. You cant and should not change perfection. Leave it alone. If you are going to change harry potter than dont make the show at all.

    2. Rusty

Actually they mention when she gets back from holiday that she is, “looking darker than normal” or something along those lines. I fisagreed with this casting too but then I got to that point in the books. Her hair is also frequently frizzy which could definitely point to some ethnic curliness. After reading through the books it made sense to me.

  8. Ann

Absolutely not!! They’ve already screwed up with Snape. They are not staying loyal to the original story

  9. Ann

So a black Snape, Hispanic Hormoine, skinny Vernon and now a female Voldemort.

Oh yeah this will rank so hard.

  10. Allen

Was willing to overlook all the other things that are not true to the book but if you cast a female voldermort i will not be watching it and neither will ANYONE I know.

  11. Me

Just because they (might) be open for men and women doesn’t mean that it’s a given that we’re getting a woman. They could just as well use this opportunity to see actresses interested in villain roles for future roles like Bellatrix and Umbridge

  12. Chris

There is nothing faithful about this series, I think a boycott should be started

  13. Jamie

I get that Tom Riddle was, like his Dad handsome, but not described as pretty. So no, a female would not work. That is going too far into left field.

  14. Kit

I think it would be funny because of how angry some people are at the idea that the main villain might be a woman. So yeah! let’s have a she-who-must-not-be-named, why not

  15. Bert

Didn’t watch the movies, won’t watch the TV show. Just not my interest. But hey, carry on. There’s cash to be made!

  16. Trish

There is NO WAY Voldemort should be a woman! Are they really going to be having James bullying a girl??? Doing spells to hang HER upside down and remove her pants!?!?
While I’m glad they want to diversify the series, I am still having a hard time with them hiring a black man to play Snape. First they say they are going to be more “book accurate” than one of the 1st few actors announced is Paapa Essideu as Snape. The book CLEARLY describes him as a “white guy!” He has black long greasy hair that falls like a curtain to his face. And I really hope that John Lithgow has a GREAT BRITISH ACCEN. Because I always heard that it was ONLY allowed to be British actors for Harry Potter. That was the reason Robin Williams was denied the role of Hagrid and Lupin. That was a RULE directly from Rowling! They are doing a lousy job keeping the series “book accurate!”

    1. Glen Senecal

James never bullied Voldemort. Voldemort was already in power during their time in school.

    2. Alicia

Voldemort is not Snape they are too different, professor Snape is the one that was being bullied by James Potter not Voldemort. Voldemort killed Harries parents, and Snape and Lilly Harries mom were friends before she even met james

  17. Kimberly

You’ve got to be kidding me?! “Faithful adaptation” means to stick to the book descriptions of the characters as close as possible. Please don’t do this. You’ve already casted people who look nothing like the characters they portray.

  18. Glen Senecal

They really want to drive everyone away from the series. The child actors’ future careers will be ruined when this show fails.

  19. Kiy Bestrange

Comprehension really relax they were not making Voldemort a female character. A female will be portraying Voldemort meaning a female will be portraying a male character. They are not changing the gender of Voldemort.

  20. Daniel

A female actress playing a male Voldemort could work. There are some aspects of the character that a woman would have an advantage with. I do not believe they are casting a female Voldemort, however. Just open to the idea of a woman portraying a male character. One that will be heavily influenced by CGI, by the way.

  21. Alicia

All the people freaking out about a female playing a male character is just silly. Maybe the people freaking out about a female playing a male character should look some of the movies from like the 1920s because there were a lot of females playing male parts in plays, movies and even opera’s

  22. Parker

Since Cynthia erivo is basically the diversity insert poster child I’m sure she’s a major consideration. They’ll have to work around her schedule when she’s inevitably cast as live action Rapunzel though

  23. JC

It’s one more thing that they’re (potentially) changing and I cant stand it. Why do people feel the need to change so much from any series of books? Just make the show as the book was written. It’s not difficult.

  24. Oh really

It’s already not faithful so, whatever. Won’t be watching.

  25. Rusty

It wouldn’t be a faithful adaptation in that case. I also don’t know how they would fix Tom Riddle reordering the letters of his name to spell Voldermort? Plus it is HE who shall not be named. If they plan to change all that your adaptation has lost it’s faithfulness. Beyond thst I like the idea. Female villains are great. I just don’t see how it works here. They are probably just leaking the idea to cause a media buzz to keep everyone talking about a series that’s still two years away.

Disney ruined Percey Jackson’s tv adaptation, HBO ruined His Dark Materials tv adaptation, and now they are thinking why not ruin the most perfect fantasy book/movie series of all time. Harry potter fans were eager for a tv series so that all the missing events and character stories from the books can be included. Between the books and the movies, we have had a 2-decade visual and literal representation of these beloved characters. Changing colors and genders of characters does not add any value to the story. It is done only for the appearance of inclusion and political correctness. Which is an extremely lazy and racist way in my humble opinion to tackle the lack of nonwhite main characters in popular western literature (the source material for most of these movies and shows). The right way to promote inclusion and diversity is to create excellent original literarily works of art in which the characters are diverse. Then you take the ones that are commercially successful and develop them into movies and tv shows. If Harry Potter was written as a black boy, and Voldemort as a woman, do you think the series would have been any less good or less successful??? of course not. The problem then is not what color or gender the movie/tv portrays a character as, the problem is that the most popular books are not written diverse to begin with and forcing them to be as such after the readers have created a visual image of those characters in their heads based on the book’s description of those characters creates a problem with many fans.
