This morning, stores along Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A., were forced to evacuate after a fire alarm sent guests out into the streets. Around 10 a.m. Pacific Coast time, guests were filing out of the stores and into the street as a smoke alarm sent them away from the area.

Due to the fire alarm, guests were initially forced to evacuate from the Emporium, Candy Palace, and Carnation Cafe. Disney cast members ushered guests out of the three impacted areas and into the street to await further instructions.
After a few minutes, guests were allowed back into the Emporium and Candy Palace, but the Carnation Cafe remained closed for the time being. While Disneyland did not comment on the evacuation, the continued closure of the Carnation Cafe suggests that there was smoke and/or fire there.

If you are walking down Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland toward Sleeping Beauty Castle, all three impacted areas are to your left. The smoke alarm did not affect the stores and restaurants on the right side of the street, including Starbucks.
The Carnation Cafe in Disneyland is a table service restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. According to Disneyland’s website, it allows guests to “relax under a candy-striped umbrella and watch the world pass by—or unwind inside the Victorian-style dining room as waiters in vintage dress bustle past.”

Cast members only told guests that an “incident” occurred in the Carnation Cafe, and they did not know when it would reopen.
While the Carnation Cafe remains closed, the situation does not appear to be that serious. Guests were allowed into the other impacted areas, and they did not report seeing a fire department presence. So, it’s safe to assume that whatever happened inside the Carnation Cafe is only temporary, and it could resume operations soon.
Remember that when a smoke alarm goes off in a Disney Park, listen to the cast members and follow their lead. We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
