It seems like things are closing every day in Disney World, as the resort embarks on one of its most significant and transformational refurbishments ever. Last year, The Walt Disney Company announced it would be investing a whopping $60 billion in its theme parks over the next decade, and it seems the spending has officially begun.

Large-scale projects are taking shape all around Walt Disney World’s four theme parks, as well as its hotels. This summer marks the end of an era for both Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with classic attractions and locations, like Tom Sawyer Island and Muppet*Vision 3D, closing for good.

Other closures aren’t as permanent, with Disney giving some of its most popular rides some much-needed TLC. Both Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin closed earlier this year at the Magic Kingdom for some extensive overhauls. These two attractions are expected to reopen with refreshed mechanics, new scenes, and an updated feel sometime in 2026.

One of the biggest closures on the horizon is the Disney Skyliner. The high-flying gondola transport system is only closing for a few days early next year for maintenance, though Disney has made a new announcement about it that guests won’t want to miss.

Earlier this year, Walt Disney World confirmed the Skyliner would close for refurbishment starting January 25, 2026. For the last several years, it has historically closed around this time for maintenance. The Skyliner is scheduled to be back up and running for guests just a few days later, on January 31.

However, in addition to this information, Disney World has also announced the Skyliner’s 2027 closure dates. From January 24 through January 30, 2027, the Disney Skyliner will also be closed for refurbishment.

The Disney Skyliner debuted in 2019, ushering in an exciting new era for Walt Disney World. Guests could already navigate the massive theme park resort by bus, car, and boat, but the Skyliner is by far one of the most efficient and unique ways to get around the parks and hotels.

The Disney Skyliner travels between Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT, with a connection hub connecting the two theme parks. From this hub, guests can also travel to select Walt Disney World hotels, such as Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Pop Century Resort.
