With August turning to September, it’s time to turn to the tropics and wonder when the first storm of 2025 will hit Central Florida. As the National Hurricane Center looks towards Africa’s west coast, the first hurricane of the season could be coming within a week or two.

With that in mind, it’s time to consider what guests would have to do if a hurricane hits the Walt Disney World Resort. There are some benefits to staying at Disney World during a hurricane, but as is the case with most hurricane-related things, there is also a downside.

Strangely enough, the Walt Disney World Resort is one of the best places in Central Florida to ride out a storm. So much so that even locals check into Disney World hotels to get through hurricanes.

The Walt Disney World Resort will most likely have electricity, water, and food (for a price) throughout the storm. Disney World cast members will also be available to help during the storm.

However, not all Disney Resorts are created the same. Most moderate and value resorts have rooms that open to the outdoors and unconnected buildings. That means you’ll be confined to your room for the duration of the storm.

That also means, like many things at Disney World, staying in a Deluxe Resort during a hurricane is significantly better. However, not all Deluxe Resorts are suitable for storms.

When you’re trying to decide on a Deluxe Resort to ride out a hurricane, there are a few considerations you have to make. The first one is food.

A scenic view of a waterfront boardwalk at dusk, featuring illuminated buildings with red and white exteriors reminiscent of a Cake Bake Shop, a calm body of water reflecting the lights, and a docked boat. Strings of lights adorn the walkway, creating an inviting atmosphere akin to Disney World.

Any restaurants that open to the outdoors will have to close during a hurricane, so you’ll have to pick a resort that has plenty of indoor dining options. So, Boardwalk is out.

When it comes to food, Disney will set up buffets, again, for a price, in hotel conference centers. This makes Yacht Club the perfect option.

Other Deluxe Resorts like the Contemporary (as long as you’re in the main building), Riveria, and Wilderness Lodge make for the perfect place to ride out any storms.

Your other consideration will be entertainment. With a hurricane bearing down on Florida, that means the parks are most likely closed for the day. Most of Disney’s hotels will set up entertainment in the common areas, assuming guests can get to them from their rooms.

Having your Disney World vacation interrupted by a hurricane can be a harrowing experience, but if you choose correctly, it doesn’t have to be the end of the magic.
