Disney World isn’t just about castles, fireworks, and Mickey-shaped snacks—it’s also home to some pretty incredible wildlife. Nowhere is that more true than at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, where guests can sip their morning coffee while zebras, giraffes, and other animals roam right outside their balconies.

But recently, those zebras decided to make things a little more interesting.

In a viral TikTok shared by @amandahopkins63, a group of zebras at Animal Kingdom Lodge managed to leap right over the fence of their enclosure. The video shows the striped escape artists breaking free, clearing what many believe to be an electrified barrier, before realizing they had no idea how to get back inside. It’s not every day you see zebras doing their best impression of an Olympic hurdler at Disney World.

Disney and Animals

For longtime Disney fans, this moment is just another reminder of how unique the Animal Kingdom experience really is. Walt Disney himself always dreamed of combining the magic of storytelling with the wonder of nature, and the Animal Kingdom Lodge delivers exactly that. The entire resort was built around an expansive Savanna, designed so guests can view the animals up close—without ever being in harm’s way.

That’s the important detail here: while the zebras escaped their designated area, they weren’t running wild through hotel hallways or sneaking into the pool. The design of the resort prevents any guest contact. Walkways aren’t built on ground level near the Savanna, and guest balconies don’t open directly into the animal areas. So even in this unusual situation, Disney had layers of safety in place.

The Viral Zebra Moment

Of course, the internet couldn’t resist. The TikTok clip spread quickly, racking up views as people marveled at the unexpected sight of zebras making a break for it at Disney World. It’s the kind of chaotic-yet-wholesome content that fans love—proof that even in “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” the animals sometimes have plans of their own.

There’s still no word on exactly how the zebras were guided back into their enclosure, but knowing Disney’s Animal Care team, it was handled swiftly and safely. After all, the resort’s staff are trained to handle everything from baby giraffe births to unexpected animal behavior.

A Wild Story Guests Won’t Forget

Most people visit Disney World expecting rides, fireworks, and character meet-and-greets. But every now and then, guests witness something truly wild—and this zebra escape definitely qualifies. It’s not every day your vacation memories include seeing a herd of zebras hop a fence like it’s no big deal.

For Disney, it’s just another reminder that when you mix theme parks with live animals, you’re bound to get a few stories that feel like they belong in Jumanji. And honestly? That’s part of what makes Animal Kingdom Lodge one of the most fascinating resorts Disney has ever built.
