Beyond the loss of the river, and the attractions that were part of it, is trivial in comparison to approving a 21st century car ride in a land representing a time before the advent of the automobile! The illusion of being transported to the American West during the 19th century is shattered! Each land is not some random or eclectic collection of rides. They are all individual stories of their own set to a specific time period. What today’s Disney execs have approved is the destruction of that illusion. A dumbing-down into a miscellaneous land of rides from any era. With a light theme. It’s no different than placing a rocket ship ride in Adventureland. Or a horse-drawn carriage in Tomorrowland. Just make it visually blend in? Imagineers from Walt’s time worked really hard to create lands that transport us to another TIME and place. That’s much more fascinating than a random collection of any type of rides like it’s a Cedar Fair or Six Flags park!

Based on what I’ve seen happening around the country lately, I’m guessing those in authority want to rid themselves of anything that hints at glorifying the South. 🙁

They can sell more cheaply made chinese imports in a cars land. Guess that’s more important than preserving the magic. Which they are popping, one bubble at a time. Sad.

I would of thought that it would make sense for the riverboat to transit guests from the Port Orleans and Riverside Hotels to Disney Springs but I guess the bridges would be the issue.

I would imagine the height and width in a narrow waterway is an issue, but the fact that the “riverboat” was a glorified barge with no way of propelling itself is a bigger issue.

I’m not opposed to small changes being made throughout the park, but what the Disney execs and brainiacs have done is destroy a calm respite from the busyness of the parks. Not to mention the fact that they destroyed hundreds of trees that have been around for years, I’m sure Mr. Disney is flipping in his grave over the ecological disaster that has been created for many animals who called that patch of trees home. It breaks my heart to see Disney going into such a money grabbing way of life as someone stated in another comment that can sell cheap imports! But what they failed to understand is that you can’t replace nature.

What they are doing just breaks my heart. I loved that area more than any other. The narration on the Liberty Belle was my go-to in stressful times. I loved sailing around Tom Sawyer Island. Soothing and evocative. Colours of the Wind being sung as one was riding the rails going towards Tomorrow Land. I will miss it all so much.

      Completely agree.

I want all of this to be illegal somehow.

What Disney doing is doing to the Magic Kingdom is extremely foolish. They’re basically canceling Walt, which means it’s not Walt Disney World anymore. It’s just becoming a generic theme park made by a creative staff that’s extremely average.

What they are doing here is destroying old Americana. Like the people who tear down statues, revise history and erase our past, they are ridden themselves of our culture. Frontierland will no longer have a Frontier. Think about it! Why not simply have the new cars replace the aging old speedway?
Instead they destroy a whole theme for a themeless generic area. It’s all about the cancel culture. Let’s get rid of the old West , mom and pop shops and anything of cultural significance.
The imagineers are like the CEO’s of Cracker Barrel, Anheiser Busch, and Jaguar. All bland nonsecal generic themes with no insight nor imagination. Look at Hollywood Studios. They took away anything representing Hollywood and Theatre like the Great Movie Ride, the backstage tour, and the Muppets. Next will be Indiana stunt show. That park is nothing of what it used to be. Simply rename it Star Wars land. In Epcot they changed the Viking ride to Frozen. What happened the Norwegian culture wasn’t good enough anymore? The only thing new that fit it’s area and theme was Tron and that’s about it .

You realize none of this is happening? Liberty Square isn’t going anywhere and neither are the Rivers of America or the Liberty Belle. They’re open right now and Cars is a hoax. There will be no Cars in Magic Kingdom. Disney will be losing Pixar in the near future because it’s being broken up like Standard Oil was. I’ll be enjoying Americana in Magic Kingdom in 2046 for the 75th. I was there because I have a Time Machine and Magic Kingdom is back to the way it was in the 1990s.

So sad to see these last links to American history being removed. My favorite place to relax amid the noise and excitement of the rest of the park. My kids raised questions about history & culture whenever we visited and those opportunities are now forever gone for future visitors. It seems counter to Walt Disney’s stated purposes to build the parks in my opinion. Just more transformation from ‘Old School Disney’ to the highly overpriced money grab that is the new ‘woke’ Disney of today. Extremely Sad…

    1. Steve

No American history is being removed and cannot be removed per Walt’s will. There is no Cars coming to Magic Kingdom and the Liberty Belle is operating right now. In fact, Pixar will be leaving the parks entirely to avoid massive licensing fees when Disney is broken up.

It’s obvious what DISNEY is doing. They’re destroying Americana and American history. They’re replacing it with trivial facts and a ride based on a cartoon. To remove the River boat and Liberty Bell is to remove a significant part of American history along with all the Presidents and history connected to them. It’s more leftist dumbing down of America. Erasing the past.

    1. Amanda

You’re right. Theme parks were always the place historians went to look at America’s past and get a real sense of historical accuracy.

      1. Drew

It was a representation of history, not a notated aspect of it that needed a footnote. It was history, in the parks, and something that Walt loved and it actually fit in the land. It added an ambience to this area of the park, while being a ride the whole family could enjoy together.

Well it’s gone now nothing you can do about it now. The new CEO’s of Disney are destroying Disney. You don’t destroy old and something that tells a story of history to put in new of fantasy. Disney has more than enough land to build new attractions of fantasy and to keep the original. We don’t even come to Disney any longer and this is just One of the many reasons. What’s next cinderella‘s castle?

    1. Amanda

YES. That’s exactly what’s next. They are going to make it Tianas Woke Castle, with tianas place. Free beingets for fun disney people who dont write these dumb comments.

This is so sad I have been going to Disney since it opened and are planning on going in October to bring young grandchildren. I think this will be my last trip. They took away all the magic and a place to forget your problems. At my age I don’t go on the rides but enjoy just being their with the magic. Same with hollywood studios they took away memories of movies and the past. They are turning it into a amusement park so I think this is the last for me how sad I have been going. every year. So very sad what they have done.

  12. Amanda

I’ll wait here for the person who is like, I can’t wait to go to liberty Square as soon as I get in the park and ride nothing. Goofballs. No kids want to be there. Most adults don’t. The only thing its good for is a parade route, and AC in the Hall of President’s. If you are concerned about “Americana” go to a museum.

    1. Drew

Just another irritant that hasn’t been around long enough to appreciate that there were events happening before they were born. When were you last in a museum?

    2. Steve

Wrong. Disney is a museum and about the hard facts that have created America. And Liberty Square is never being removed and neither are the Rivers of America or the Liberty Belle. Disney is being broken up and will be removing Pixar from the parks to avoid licensing fees along with Marvel and Star Wars. I want American history in Disney parks and so do the purists. You want Disney characters all the time, stay home and watch the movies. When I take over Disney and make it great again, I will bring back the “What would Walt do?” way of thinking that ran Disney after his passing and keep the parks stagnant and frozen in time. The parks will be treated as private clubs.
