While I’m excited for our own Cars Land here in Orlando, there are so many other spots where Disney could have built this new land. WDW is 24,000 acres. And Hollywood Studios has so many wide open spaces wasted.
Disney wants to build things that will bring in new guests. The older ones from when the parks each opened are retiring and dying. Don’t be offended as I am one of them. My grandkids know little of Tom Sawyer or Swiss Family Robinson. Most people don’t know that The Adventure to Inner Space occupied the space in Anaheim where Star Tours is now. That Circle Vision 360 was where Buzz Lightyear is now, was sponsored by Pac Bell and had a groovy demo of dialing a rotary phone versus using a newfangled keypad on a touch tone phone to show the time savings. Somehow the newer generations accept the current Disneyland as Disneyland and us old timers try to fondly remember what was there before we forget about it. You will all get over the loss of the island, the riverboat and the river as you line up on opening day for Piston Peak.
My first trip to Disneyland was in 1972 with my parents and siblings. I have seen lots of changes in my roughly 500 visits to various Disney Parks since then. Some good and some bad. All of them, put together equal what each park is today. In 5 years, a new visitor will have a different picture of what each park is to them.
Yes, there is change. But the things you state are things that sucked. Kids don’t know it that is WHY IT NEEDS TO STAY. That is the conversation with parents that would be fun to have. Dumb, Dumb and Dumb. This could have been anywhere. The unintelligent people making decision probably DEI hires have now idea what they are getting rid of. Also, the connection to Walt is enough to keep it. That area will not have the same feel around the hunted mansion and fronter land. Just like woke mountain this will suck. Someday I hope someone comes in and changes it all. I know it can’t happen that is the other part of this stupidity. I am a DVC member and this sucks.
Disney is not building anything new and the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island are never being removed. It’s a hoax. Cars is never coming and there will never be a Piston Peak. Pixar is going to be removed from the parks along with Marvel and Star Wars due to Disney being broken up by Washington and losing its acquired properties. Kids absolutely do know who Tom Sawyer is and do care about those classic attractions. If they don’t then who cares? The older generations are not dying and will live forever. When I take over Disney and make it great again, the parks will be locked permanently in the 20th century never adding anything new again and stagnating while doing things by asking “What would Walt do?” just like management did for decades after his passing. I will appease the purists and traditionalists only resulting in no future for the parks. Kids who go to the parks will become their parents’ and grandparents’ clones with the same tastes. The parks will practilcally be private clubs for members only.
