A new trio of Disneyland ride closures has been confirmed, putting a slight damper on the resort’s ongoing 70th anniversary celebration. At the top of this list is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

This classic Wild West roller coaster has been a staple of not just Disneyland but all of Disney’s theme parks for decades. Disney describes the attraction as “the wildest ride in the wilderness,” though these wild times will temporarily end on September 2.

The coaster’s reopening date has not been specified.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently closed at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World for an extensive overhaul. This refurbishment started in January and is expected to continue until early 2026.

So far, the Florida version of the ride has received new track pieces and other upgrades.

Dumbo the Flying Elephant, another classic Disneyland attraction, will close on September 16.

Alongside these two ride closures, guests can also expect to see Pirates’ Lair on Tom Sawyer Island close for refurbishment. The interactive playground area will close temporarily on September 15. Both Pirate’s Lair and Dumbo the Flying Elephant will reopen on September 18.

These upcoming closures aren’t the only operational changes guests can expect to see over the next few weeks, as several other attractions will close or are already offline. Casey Jr. Circus Train and Storybook Land Canal Boats are both currently closed with no reopening dates.

Star Tours: The Adventures Continue closed in July and is not expected to return for several more weeks.

Radiator Springs Racers was recently added to Disneyland’s refurbishment calendar. The ride will close on August 18 for an indefinite amount of time.

As mentioned, this all happens as Disneyland Resort celebrates its 70th birthday. The festivities kicked off earlier this year, with all kinds of special, limited-edition food, drinks, and merchandise available.

Guests can also explore the theme parks in fun, interactive new ways as part of the party.

Oogie Boogie Bash, Disneyland’s annual Halloween event, kicks off later this August and will run through October.
