There are a ton of magical experiences to enjoy during a Disneyland vacation, but for most guests, rides remain king. From classic dark rides with Alice in Wonderland and Winnie the Pooh to intense and immersive attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, there is something for everyone to enjoy at “The Happiest Place on Earth.”
However, Space Mountain is likely the first thing guests think of when they think “Disney roller coaster” and for good reason. The white-domed space station has served as an icon of the resort for decades, offering riders the chance to explore the final frontier.
The coaster has seen some updates and changes over the years, with Space Mountain getting a unique, limited-time makeover as part of a marketing collaboration with Marvel Studios.

Guests visiting Disneyland Park will notice a new batch of projection and lighting elements shining on Space Mountain. These new effects celebrate the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), one of Marvel’s most highly anticipated films.
The movie has big implications for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though The Fantastic Four‘s grasp has now extended to Disney’s real-life coaster.
Disney Parks shared a video of the new effects. Take a look below:

The special light show began on July 25 and will continue through September. Alongside this exciting Marvel-themed lighting package, guests will also be able to meet and interact with The Fantastic Four themselves, The Thing (Ben Grimm), Mister Fantastic (Reed Richards), The Invisible Woman (Sue Storm), and The Human Torch (Johnny Storm), inside Disneyland.
Disney teased this makeover earlier this summer as a way to tie into the premiere of the film.
Space Mountain is one of the world’s most famous roller coasters and continues to be a crowd pleaser all these years later.
The first iteration of the ride opened in 1975 at the Magic Kingdom. The coaster proved to be so popular that a second version of Space Mountain was built two years later at Disneyland.
Today, Space Mountain can be found at places like Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland.
While the coaster is fun, it’s managed to stay relatively untouched over the decades, at least in Walt Disney World. This version of the ride has been running steadily, offering almost the same exact experience it did 50 years ago.
While this means that the coaster is certainly rougher than Disney’s newer, more modern rides, Space Mountain is still a whole lot of fun and feels magical in a way few other rides do.
