Something unusual is happening in the bodies of water across Walt Disney World Resort. According to multiple guest reports, a strange film has appeared in ponds, lakes, and other waterways across Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Disney Springs, and the Disney Resort hotels.
Walt Disney World Resort might be the Most Magical Place on Earth, but it’s still located on former Central Florida swampland. As much as Disney tries to keep the real world out, wildlife sometimes slips in, from alligators to lizards and, occasionally, black bears!

Similarly, Walt Disney World Resort treats its waterways and cares for the wildlife that depend on them… but they’ll never look as perfect as a chlorinated pool. This summer, though, Disney Park guests report deteriorating conditions in still water features across the Central Florida vacation destination.
On August 6, X (formerly known as Twitter) user @DisneyFoodBlog shared a video of a thick film covering the water near the Tangled (2010) bathrooms in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park:
Well, this is…different. The water between tangled bathrooms, and memento mori has…skin?
Other Disney Park guests said they also noticed “skin” on the water at locations around Walt Disney World Resort. From @wesomeTweet:
This is something I noticed on our recent trip that I had never seen before. This was happening at most (all?) of the bodies of water throughout Disney World this summer. Hopefully they get this sorted out because it looks jarring!
Films on outdoor, still water can indicate the presence of algae or other types of bacteria. Rarely, it can signal contamination from oil or other foreign materials.

Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t made any public statements about issues with its water. However, these reports follow complaints about overgrowth and algae on the beach of the Seven Seas Lagoon at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
