The announcement is a long time coming, as fans have been begging Disney to repaint the castle in its original color scheme following the 50th-anniversary-themed overhaul in 2021.
It’s Destination D23 weekend at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and Walt Disney World Resort has been abuzz with announcements about the Central Florida Disney parks and beyond. Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar shared first looks at films like Hexed (2026) and Toy Story 5 (2026), and Walt Disney Imagineers revealed plans to update Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, including the addition of a Walt Disney audio-animatronic figure like the one in “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” at Disneyland Park.
On Sunday, the excitement continued during the “Beyond the Spires: An Insider Look at Disney Castles” panel with an overdue announcement about Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park. Imagineers and, later, Disney Parks Blog, shared a first look at concept art for the new color palette coming to Walt Disney World Resort’s legendary “Castle Park.”

Cinderella Castle’s new look is “inspired by the classic and original look of the castle” that debuted alongside Magic Kingdom Park on October 1, 1971. The new paint job will “feature grays, creams, blues, and touches of gold aiming to enhance the castle’s architecture.”
Walt Disney Imagineers are still finalizing the details for the Cinderella Castle reimagining, but Disney Parks fans can expect more information to come regarding the construction timeline and the grand reveal.
Last week, Inside the Magic reported that Walt Disney World Resort had filed a construction permit for Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park. That filing revealed little about Imagineering’s plan for the castle, and it’s unclear whether that project is related to the overhaul announced at Destination D23 on Sunday.
