Sometimes a complete break is better than having the kids take over. Case in point, Star Trek: The Next Generation (more the show than the movies, which dwindled in script success after First Contact), which brought on a completely new cast in a different time. Regardless, character development and good scripts are key, otherwise audiences quickly become wise to the money-making lack of substance. Also, treat beloved legacy characters honorably; they’ve earned nothing less.
A “next generation” can be made to work well, but it will take MORE innovation and risk taking to make it work. More so than innovation and risk taking of something brand new. And there’s the real problem, Disney lost their risk taking roots for marketing numbers based off of Twitter and TikTok. instead of putting themselves in the shoes of all their consumer customers, they’re trying to segment them into generations, and social groups, vs looking for the commonality between all of the people. Now they got themselves into a game of trying to market to the younger segment of adults that only respond in the short term at best. They play nostalgia tricks to try and rope in older generations of loved properties and it falls flat as being just a veneer slapped on a poorly executed story. The older generations don’t have a buy in to the new generation, and don’t introduce younger generations into the true fandom of the property. So everything being produced becomes a short term story vs an enduring next generation.
The three new Star Wars films were at best, lame. The writers dud not know Star Wars or the character of Luke. If John F and Dave F had made the movies instead of having the loser Kathleen K in charge it would have been different. I still have not watched the third movie even though I have Disney+.
You don’t have to watch a movie to learn how bad it is, dum dum. Word of mouth, reviews and even the Wikipedia story can tell you enough of what you want to know about it. I’ve passed on tons of movies and I haven’t been to the theater since Toy Story 3.
I agree that next generation is being pushed too much because more often than never the next generation is woke and more left-wing with each generation/reboot/sequel whatever.

Yes. No problem with introducing the new, just dont crush the old to do it.
You can have «strong female» characters without emasculating the males.
