After 40+ cruises, 10 on Disney you don’t “ fall” off a ship. Parents do NOT take your eyes off a child for 30 seconds. Happily this turned out ok but a lesson to be learned. Not just Disney, any ship, any theme park.
So true, parents need to be on top of anything a child does. Even though there are concerns back in the 90’s, I had an arm strap on my child, in the parks and always held her hand when walking. It was NOT walking the dog and inhumane having a strap, but protecting children who can wander and not aware of danger!
Since it’s inception, how many kids, or anyone, has gone overboard from a DCL ship? Think of the hundreds of thousands of kids that have cruised with Disney in the past quarter century… is this the first child who’s gone overboard on a Disney Ship? It’s so astronomically rare for anyone to go overboard from a ship that is hard, if not impossible, for people to suspect (strongly) negligence on the part of this child’s parents. Not sure why the blog is so boldly sticking up for the father or going as far to point the finger back at reasonable critics but calling this Dad a hero is nothing short of ridiculous, even outrageous. Regardless, glad the child was so quickly recovered by the fantastic, and well trained, DCL crew members.
If I were to merely guess and judge, I would say that you don’t have any kids and that you never should have kids. An accident happened. Any father would instinctively immediately go into rescue mode to attempt to save their child. They wouldn’t think twice before jumping into action. It is an instinct. You just do it and analyze it later. Dad saved his kid. He is a hero for doing that. Just accept it.

So many armchair critics. I am glad the child was saved. Children are fast and 5 years old are super fast.

What parent would not do the same to rescue their child? Anyone who is angry, lost their soul and love!
