Whether conscious or unconsciously, Disney has set August as a month for major announcements. With Disney World under major construction and Disney having to explain some major flops at the theater, this could not have come at a better time for the company.

Here’s what’s coming up and what to expect from Disney in August.
Earnings Call
Disney CEO Bob Iger usually uses the investors’ earnings call to announce upcoming projects to distract from the company’s issues. This August 6 call should be no different.
Iger will have to distract from a somewhat down 2025. After three billion dollar hits in 2024, Iger will have to explain away the disappointment of Snow White, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and Elio.

The billion dollars the live-action Lilo & Stitch made will help to soften the blow, and by the time The Fantastic Four: First Steps will have its numbers to save Iger.
Expect several new announcements and first looks at Disney’s many sequels in the works. While nothing has leaked out yet, expect Iger to have something ready to appease investors.

D23 Expo
The month is bookended by spots for major announcements. August ends with the D23 Expo at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort from August 29 to 31.
Last year’s Expo brought significant changes to Disney World and Disneyland. Head of Disney Parks Josh D’Amaro announced Cars Land, Villains Land, Monsters, Inc. Land, Tropical Americas Land for Disney World, and an Avatar Land for Disneyland.

Don’t expect those kinds of major announcements this year. Instead, expect some significant updates on what was already started at the two American parks.
D’Amaro could update the progress at the Tropical Americas Land and preview the new rides that are coming. Also, expect ride updates for Cars Land and Monsters, Inc. Land.

While Villains Land was announced, there have been surprisingly few details. This is the spot for D’Amaro to drop some new information.
Fans will notice that one thing is missing from all these announcements: EPCOT. Now would be a good time to announce something new at EPCOT.

Spaceship Earth is closing in late August. Maybe this is the time for the plan to renovate that was announced before the pandemic but has been on the shelf ever since.
The former Body Wars pavilion has been vacant for years. Or, if D’Amaro really feels the need to add to EPCOT, perhaps a new country will come to the World Showcase.
Brace yourself, Disney fans. August is going to be an exciting month.
