On July 31, 2025, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced the immediate closure of the Cedar Point Shores Waterpark. Here’s what guests need to know.

Cedar Point is the second-oldest continuously operating theme park in the United States and has become a must-visit destination for roller coaster fans over its 155-year lifespan. In 1988, the Ohio-based vacation destination added its first-ever water park, Soak City, which eventually became Cedar Point Shores Waterpark. In 2024, Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and Six Flags announced a historic merger, uniting over two dozen North American theme parks under the new Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.

Between inclement weather conditions and a personal tragedy, Cedar Point has had a difficult few days. On July 27, law enforcement responded to an emergency at the theme park’s employee housing complex on First Street in Sandusky. Police later confirmed that a Six Flags Entertainment Corporation employee had died after jumping from one of the housing buildings. Out of respect for the employee and his family, no further identifying information was released to the public.
