It’s that simple. Not sure why this new, lesser, era led but Disney seeks to overcomplicate things. It’s just like the idea of bleeding a force crystal. Much more complex and stupider than the idea that Sith only had access to red synthetic crystals.
Screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan said he came up with the idea of Like losing his hand, foreshadowing the possibility that Luke could become another Darth Vader.
