Rachel cannot play Maria Von Trapp. That would be “cultural appropriation”. DEI rules state a person may not adopt the things from a minority culture as your own if you are part of the majority culture. Maria Von Trapp was a Catholic and an Austrian. Rachel is neither.

Natalie Wood did an excellent job as Maria in the movie “ Westside Story “. I understand that she wasn’t a Puerto Rican. Is Hollywood. They have to choose an actress who can carry the show. Same goes to the remake of “ The Sound of Music. You have to choose an actress who can sing and act. Rachel Zegler has both. I have no problem with her being Maria Von Trapp

Also seems racial diverse actors can play Caucasian and be celebrated for it but Caucasians can’t play diverse parts without an outcry.
