This is mistaken in several respects. Firstly the Harry Potter world is set in the UK with 3.9% black representation. Is it really unusual that there are only a handful of black characters in a book by an English lady set in a place where there are only a few black people?

Would this same thing have been an appropriate controversy if Harry Potter had been written by a black woman in Somalia and set at a school in Africa with too-few Brazilian characters or not enough Mexicans?

Is there some equivalent discussion about why there are not more Asian characters in Wakanda?

Perhaps the solution to literary and creative representation issues might better be solved by those wanting more representation creating more works rather than forcing representations into other people’s works.

If someone wants more Australian aborigines represented in films wouldn’t it be better to have more creations by and about them? Wouldn’t that make more sense than the equivalent of demanding they be inserted into Indian Bollywood films?

Just a thought but if Mr. Mackey were to invest some of his millions of net worth in producing a story with magical characters of African heritage in Africa or even Algiers in New Orleans it might be more productive. It would likely be more productive than pointing fingers at a British lady for writing a British oriented story focused mainly on characters who are predominantly descended from Britons.

HP is obviously based on British culture but why stop there. The New Orleans idea sounds exciting. Instead of going back to the same well with Harry etc being recast, just transport the same concept to a different culture, where diversity is built in. That could be part of the HP world without being too repetitive.

Just don’t do it like that movie that appropriated Native American culture without bothering to have Native American characters played by actors of the appropriate ethnicity. That’s just so hamfisted, how did it ever get a greenlight. With a modicum of sensitivity, it could be great.

If the characters are white, why can’t that just be accepted? Must we change the color of everyone because they are from a different ethnic group? One race, human! What if Hollywood made a movie about Martin Luthor King, but the actor that played him was white?! I can imagine the outrage the blacks would have if that were to happen! Enough! You want to stamp out racisim, then stop drawing lines and dividing everyone. If you raise your kids to only relate to characters that look like them, you just perpetuate racisim onto the next generation.

Anthony was awesome as falcon and never had a problem. At least it seemed that way. Now he says all theis crap and it just sucks. Now I want nothing to do with watching him as anything or in a another move that has nothing to do with marvel. Would have watched him before no like hell no!!! Just sucks hollywood is broken.

Leftists think they’re ending racism with DEI. However, DEI IS racism when they’ve gotta race swap everyone. If Harry Potter took place in America 2025, yes there would be blacks, Mexicans and probably mixed races featured. But when you’ve got a film or show set in a specific time period and a specific part of the world, you need to be respectful of that country’s time era and not stick black people in everything unless you’re making a movie in Africa.
