And again Disney is shutting out the everyday hard working people. We used to save all year so we could vacation at Fort Wilderness Campground. Now it takes 3-4 years to save for the 10 day trip. DVC clients aren’t any better just richer.
The Campground use to represent “wilderness”. Like Davey Crockett, campfires, wagon rides. And swimming in the “river” at River Country. I don’t know where the writer comes up with “low” attendance for a reason for closing River Country water park. It was always very well used by all the campers who could walk, bike or bus ride there. Even people from the other resorts came.
We always looked forward to the short boat ride to the Bird Sanctuary across from River Country.
I understand River County used waters from the lake and bacteria gave some people “swimmers itch”. So close the whole River down? Instead of blocking the lake water from entering?
Only thing left is the “shoe tree”. All you long time campers know what I am talking about. For those who don’t. It’s a tree in the lake that has shoes hanging from the branches. Story goes the summer help workers on their last day would swim out to the tree, wing their shoes up, and walk away till next year. Sort of a good bye for now jester. Guessing the shoe tree is next to go because it be an eye sore to the DVC clients.
I WISH THE CAMPGROUND WAS EXPANDED. IT’S ALWAYS FULL. WE DON’T NEED OR WANT MORE RESORTS. WE NEED MORE CAMPSITES! MAYBE ANOTHER POOL AND STORE.
    I could go on….

Again the average hard working people are being shut out. A DVC resort in the Fort Wilderness Campground? And what’s with the contemporary style “cabins”! We NEED MORE CAMPSITES, ANOTHER POOL, ANOTHER MERCANTILE STORE!
We used to save a year for our family vacation to Fort Wilderness Campground. Now we have to save 2-3 years for our 10 day trip.
For those long time Fort Wilderness camper who remember River Country. Low attendance may have been a reason to close? I remember a crowd. Campers could walk, bicycle, bus there. People came from the other resorts by boat and bus just to experience its uniqueness.
And taking a short boat ride to Discovery Island WAS another adventure we enjoyed. For those who don’t know. Discovery Island WAS an actual island in the lake across from River Country. It Was like a small zoo with learning stations and an aviary.
The only thing left to our trip that’s still there is the shoe tree. For those who don’t know what the “shoe tree” is. A tree in the lake between River Country and Discovery Island. Tradition was on the last day of the summer help workers. Worker swam- rowed to the tree, chuck their shoes in tree. Sort of a good bye till next year gesture. So I guess the tree is next to go because its an eyesore to the guest at the new DVC resort.
    I could go on ……

Get over it River country has been closed for 2 decades . As far as them making more DVC life in every way has been better for the rich . There are a million other options for the rest of us . Remember they are a business and just like all businesses they care about their bottom line . Universal does the same their new hotel is for the rich also.
