The Walt Disney Company has certainly faced its fair share of controversy, something that should not be surprising given the sheer amount of franchises and properties it owns. However, Disney has faced significant backlash in recent months, namely due to its decisions within its theme park and entertainment divisions.

Disney is set to embark on one of its most divisive projects for its Magic Kingdom theme park this year: a new expansion based on Pixar’s Cars franchise. Disney also released its highly controversial live-action Snow White remake this month, a film that will likely do well at the box office but has left many fans divided.

However, it’s Disney’s business and broadcast side that remains most interesting, with the company having a hand in everything from Hulu and Disney+ to ESPN and, of course, ABC. Disney’s connection to ABC recently spurred harsh comments from Fox News host Sean Hannity, who called out Jimmy Kimmel and Disney CEO Bob Iger himself after Kimmel joked about the ongoing Tesla boycott.

Twitter user Acyn shared a clip of the attack online:

“Disney is run by Bob Iger. Bob, are you okay with this? ” asked Hannity. “Is this the inclusive woke, the ABC Disney brand? Bob Iger, are you proud of this? Jimmy Kimmel is an unhinged loser.”

During a recent taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel addressed the ongoing boycott and attack on Elon Musk’s Tesla brand, sarcastically pleading with the audience not to vandalize Tesla vehicles. These begs were accompanied by some heavy sarcasm, suggesting Kimmel is actually quite ok with the boycott and vandalism.

The Tesla boycott has picked up steam in the last few weeks as the company’s leader, Elon Musk, continues his tirade throughout the U.S. Government system, slashing jobs, locations, and entire organizations he and his DOGE team deem as “fraudulent.”

These decisions have not been popular among those on the left, with a full-on boycott of Tesla breaking out. However, this boycott has been punctuated by actual arson at Tesla dealerships and factories, with one individual recently lighting multiple vehicles on fire.

This is what prompted Hannity to speak out against Kimmel and, subsequently, Bob Iger.

Bob Iger has served as CEO of The Walt Disney Company since 2005, only taking a small break from the role between 2020 and 2022. During this time, Bob Chapek was named Disney’s CEO, a decision that would not last long. Chapek’s tenure at Disney was marred by controversy and backlash, both from fans and internal figures within the company.

To be fair to Chapek, the executive was handed the keys to the kingdom months before COVID-19 would break out globally, an unprecedentedly historic and challenging time not just for Disney but the entire world. This is not to say Chapek’s own decisions and leadership didn’t ruffle some feathers, with many fans feeling as though Disney’s new leader was only focused on the bottom line.

In late 2022, Disney terminated Chapek’s contract, a decision that shocked the Disney community and the world. Iger swooped back, agreeing to fill the CEO spot for a limited number of years until Disney could find a suitable replacement. Disney now intends to name its new CEO sometime in 2026, the same year Bob Iger’s new contract expires.

While Disney has remained relatively quiet on the matter, several figures are deemed frontrunners in the race to replace Iger. Dana Walden, Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, and Disney Parks and Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro are among them.

Of course, Disney may look outwardly for its next leader, with Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson also being a possible contender.
