I agree with the former Imagineer’s that Iger is doing his level best to eradicate any presence of Walt in the Magic Kingdom. I was a 10 year Parade Audience employee after I retired and when Iger came back (and blamed everything on Chapek) the company has gone to literal hell. I recently went back to the MK and was appalled by the lack of professionalism by park employees and the quality control within the park. Paint peeling, rusted ride supports, and sucky fireworks. Fire Iger immediately and never let him touch another thing in the MK.

I agree with the many Disney faithful, as I am one, that these nostalgic pieces should not be removed. They should be revered, marketed and possibly some upgrading touches. I also believe that Imagineering & the Disney ivory tower has lost its way. Things should change, mainly bc Walt believed in always improving, making it better. But Walt also believed that the parks were for kids& family enjoyment. That the money payoff would come from those core ideas. Walt&Roy purchased 40sq miles, plenty of room for change.Do better Disney.

      Agreed.

One must wonder what kind of sick mind would think that paving over the Magic Kingdom’s River was a good idea. The River is a LANDMARK, not just an attraction!! You don’t mess with Landmarks, damn it! Removing it would annihilate Frontierland’s charm and authenticity. Add to this the fact that there are at least two alternative locations for WDI’s car ride The most obvious is Tomorrowland’s Speedway, one of the MK’s oldest rides, yet has never been updated! Also, It covers the same area that the new ride requires. Second, there is the Indy Stunt Show at the Hollywood Studios, which also dates back to the park’s opening day. With a new Indy ride soon being added to the Animal Kingdom, kweling the Show would be redundant.

The Rivers are never being removed, ever. Disney doesn’t have any right to remove them and they are a landmark. There will never be any cars ride in Magic Kingdom and soon Pixar will be gone from the parks due to the breakup of the Disney monopoly like Standard Oil. That also means bye bye Space Ranger Spin and Toy Story Land. Not to mention removing all Pixar decor from the hotels and cruise ships. Pixar will be independent and fending for itself again without Disney.

    2. GuestJulie Snyder

I agree that the Tomorrowland Speedway would be a much better location for the new Cars Land, NOT in Frontierland!

  3. David

    I agree.

With only around 8% WDW land developed how about a new park and drop new ideas in there.

Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, EPCOT Center in 1982,
    MGM Studios/Hollywood Studios in 1989,
    Animal Kingdom in 1998.

It’s been 27 years from the last real WDW expansion.

Show Orlando some love and develop a new improved Disney park that would rival all other parks.

Also, invest in a monorail 2.0 and add coverage across all of WDW.

    1. Good idea. Develop a new park that would rival or best all the the other parks rather than removing older established “landmarks” to accommodate other attractions. 👍

        Yes 👍

Contact Disney and tell them that!!!!!

    2. Janet

I agree with you 100 percent.

    3. Rroe

David, I FULLY agree with everything you’ve said. If Iger wanted the CARS attraction so bad, he should have yanked out that polluted, noisy TOMORROW LAND SPEEDWAY. It’s totally outdated and should be ripped out. The new CARS attraction would compliment TRON and other attractions in that area. DUMB move IGER!!!!!

    4. Danny O.

All great ideas. Too bad political Disney will never consider listening to us TRUE Disney fans.

  4. BKC

    I agree wholly!
The next to go by the wayside will be small world.
Good luck when guest stop coming.
I will be one of the.

WhileI understand that new rides are needed, I am deeply saddened by the possible loss of the rivers and Tom Sawyer island. Disney owns so much land in Florida it is hard to appreciate why they need to change Frontierland. I have visited the parks every year for over 30 years. With the rides constantly breaking down and the loss of the Fastpass system, Im beginning to consider not coming back

  6. Meri

I agree. Disney World was once beautiful and fun. Frontierland was Frontierland not Villian and car land. Use Test Track for Car Land, leave the rivers and the boars and Tom Sawyer’s Island which was a place for kids and adults to rest, explore and run around in greenery. Don’t add a Toyland like component to MK. Bring back more characters and things for kids to climb on like Honey I Shrank the Kids. Not more video rides but experiences for whole families to enjoy at less than a breakneck pace.

    1. David

I agree. Honey I Shrunk the Kids ‘movie set’ play area was a great place for the kids to displace some kid energy. Each WDW park needs a play place like this.

Funny these same imagineers over the last 50years of design by committee: once said to younger teammates on new attractions and refurbs:

“If you disagree with the creative, realize you may not be the target audience!”

I think this applies. If Iger did his homework, this will have a good chance of at least being 60% successful, not less like these former Imagineers suggest.

    1. Danny O.

Target audience? You mean the rich & powerful? THOSE are the only “target audience” being catered to. And if those rich people also happen to believe in heterosexual white Christian male supremacy — as their new leader (DeSantis) promotes…so be it.

      1. Amm Cat

Ya got a problem with dat?

  9. Bri

Disney has forgotten that the only reason they are able to charge triple what the experience is worth is nostalgia. Disney has destroyed what made me go back over and over for decades. The next generation of my family will just go to amusement parks closer and cheaper as the magic is gone.

  10. Gary

I agree with all that say that Disney is making too many mistakes some of the people who are goofing should be let go and folks who think like Walt and Roy did with the help from Lillian and Edna should be hired !

    1. Danny O.

      💯%!

I agree with all that say that Disney is making too many mistakes some of the people who are goofing should be let go and folks who think like Walt and Roy did with the help from Lillian and Edna should be hired !

  12. Roger Stevens

There is no more Disney, after Diane passed away, it became whatever crap is Out thereland.

  13. Alex

Disney is a monster cannibalizing itself. It’s unsustainable to keep destroying and replacing. They could refresh the area, maybe scrap the boat ride and add bridges to tom sawyer that would also access other attractions beyond it. Unfortunately I think this has to do with destroying things that don’t jive with modern ideology.

  14. Zara

Calm down guys, anybody would think it was just going to be a concrete space! If it’s anything like Grizzly Peak, it will be stunning and give way more Kinetic energy! No whining and crying over this will change their minds….get used to it, it’s happening and I for one cannot wait for the changes and uniqueness it will bring to MK

    1. Steve

No it’s not happening. It’s a hoax and a lie and there will never be a Cars Land in Magic Kingdom and with Disney being broken up by Washington as a monopoly kiss Pixar goodbye in the parks. No more Toy Story Land or Space Ranger Spin either. Nobody will miss Pixar in the Disney parks. And Disney when I take over will be truly great again as everything will be done by asking “What would Walt do?” again and many classic attractions will be brought back like they never left. Especially Alien Encounter which will return to Tomorrowland to be a PTSD making machine again complete with the alien breath on your neck.

  15. David

I agree the recent changes to WDW in general have been terrible. The destruction of Rivers of.America is another huge mistake! It will destroy the character of Frontierland and the Magic Kingdom. WALT would be rolling over in his grave if he knew.

    1. Anonymous

Walt is ALREADY rolling in his grave…

  16. Shauna

I agree! Walt is turning in his grave at what Disney has become! It’s sad!

  17. YvonneNC

Rivers of America and all waterways in the parks are a necessary place for getting respite from the crazy, busy hububs of the crowds. Gazing on the water with a coffee or snack, watching the ducks and the boats paddle by, is about the only way to breathe in some relaxing sanity on a hectic day. If there is any validity to this article, I hope Disney planners come to their senses.

  18. Rick sislow

I agree the cars villains would be more suitable for Hollywood studios with Toy Story. The changing fo Tom Sawyers island is a crime. Been going there since it opened and this will lessen my affection for Disney.

  19. B

I agree leave rivers of America alone. It goes with the area. Tiana. Haunted mansion. Frontier land. You’re going to have cars racing through that area that didn’t have cars in their time. Disney should learn from the last few of their bright ideas that bombed. Listen to your guests and stop changing the classics

  20. AnnErco

They need to rethink a lot of things. It is sad what is happening, let’s tear up everything and charge more money. Greedy sob’s.

  21. Lynn

I am saddened by a lot of changes in Disney World. There is more land available to expand without losing the historic offerings that made the park what it is today. I understand moving forward with fresh ideas however, it shouldn’t be at the expense of the past that made Disney World what it sustained over the years.

    1. Anonymous

Disney should build a 5th park for their expansions

  22. Don Wise

Walt is turning over in his grave as the high prices are destroying family parks; I will no longer pay those prices. Been there, seen it, done it. The drive for profit is killing Disney. WAKE UP BOARD and return Disney to what WALT intended Disney to be…A Family Park for all to enjoy.

  23. Lane

Agree, totally and the fact that this is such an obvious better spot (tomorrow land speedway) makes one truly believe they just wanted to destroy the traditional Americana elements deliberately. Destroying Rivers and TSI … is such a bad move and sets in motion further moves that are as bad or worse. This will of course kill Frontierland, so that means they want to replace it all with a new them around some generic ip. That will then push them to mess and ruin Liberty square and Mainstreet further twish disney world into just a blander universal wannabe.
